I have ridges all but I know mind is related to my auto immune issues so they never get any better .

My cuticles are also damaged and I get white specked in the nails

I developed ridges in my nails when my gastroperisis caused malnutrition. Is there any way you have deficiencies in any kind of micronutrients?

I have ridges on my fingernails and white spots but I have had them as long as I can remember. My 3 sisters had them too growing up, but only 2 of us have dysautonomia.

I have ridges on my nails too and no "moons". The ridges have gotten way more pronounced then they used to be. I have no clue as to what causes this.

Small fiber neuropathy also causes nail ridges, very dry skin, and distal hair loss. My hair has thinned considerably in my ten months of dysautonomia, and it's texture has changed. However, I'm taking the supplement biotin and I'm now seeing some improvement.

Sylvie,

There are just a few meds that can cause biotin deficiencies. I found out the hard way when I was on Depakote for migraines. I started a really good hair/skin/nails supplement and it has returned my hair and nails to health. You might want to check into any meds you're on to see if that could be contributing.

I've had haemorrhage splinters in my nails for 32 years and the ridging started when the POTS?autonomic dysfunction and neuropathy came on. My hair has also thinned considerably. I now supplement as much as possible to help.

Katie,

What hair, skin, nail brand would you recommend?

TCP,

What do you supplement with?

My hair is breaking  and thinning. My skin is dry. I know florinef contributes to this but it just seems to be getting worse.

I use the Andrew Lessman Healthy Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement they sell on HSN. I use a few of this brand of supplements because I have found they don't upset my stomach and do what they say they will do. I really haven't tried any other brands.

Yes, when the POTS and neuropathy came on ridges and splits came. I also noticed that my nails were starting to flatten at the ends. It seems people with EDS get this too and I have EDS.

I read somewhere recently that vertical nail ridging is a sign of nutrition (or vitamin?) deficiency, and happens in POTS because there isn't enough circulation/blood flow to bring nutrients to our finger tips.  I'm going to guess it's the same for hair issues too?  I didn't realize Florinef could make hair issues worse.  I just started on it a week or so ago.  :/
