Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Roller Coaster

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone... I haven't been on this site in a long time but recently my pots has been acting up and I'm really frustrated. My blood pressure and heart rate have been all over the place. I'll wake up with my bp and heart rate being close to normal, and then in a hour or two the roller coaster begins. My will spike as high as 163/136 with my pulse being 128 and then a little later it will start going down and end up too low (both my bp and heart rate). At physical therapy this week, they've been concerned about my bp, so we took it again after I did some exercises and it was 132/100 but my pulse was 49 and stayed that way. If my heart rate goes above 65 , it starts feeling like my heart is skipping beats and when I check my bp, the irregular heartbeat symbol comes up.

I've contacted my cardiologist last Thursday when this started up again and they said to keep them posted. Well the weekend was the same and this week has been no different so I messaged them again. And now I'm waiting to hear back from some one. I just want to know what to do. I don't want to go to the er and be there for half the night but I'm getting tired of dealing with this. With my bp swings and my heart rate going low, my migraines are worse and I'm more exhausted then usual. Does anyone else have high blood pressure with a low heart rate? If you do how do you handle it?

Thanks for letting me vent a little.

I've been experience if the same for past two months. A lot of head scratching going on.ive had pots diagnosis for two years. No meds. I have these roller coasters. Either high BPand hr

Low BP and high hr or my new not so fun high BP low hr. Makes it difficult to salt/ fluid/ etc. new specialist mid month I'll let ya know their thoughts. Is it due to dysautonmia or something new a brewing? The world may never know. Hang in there. Er says thumbs up and urgent care said same thing because by the time I go in... Vitals are fine... And I'm exhausted

I'm wearing a 21 day monitor because my vitals are changing and causing problems. They're not totally outrageous numbers but they jump around very quickly which is new. I am also on day 32 of the same migraine. It's all rather unpleasant. I wish I had words of wisdom. My Neuro is deciding at the appt at the end of October whether to redo my autonomic testing as it has been 5 years. He said every 5-7 years, he finds it is necessary to retest his patients as their bodies change. Personally, I don't go to the ER because I don't feel like they can do anything for me, generally speaking, in regards to my POTS. However, I think you have to use your best judgment and seek medical attention on an emergency basis of you feel like you are in eminent danger or if you're truly not sure if you are in danger.

Are you actually getting an arrythmia? My heart rate use to be always 92-97 while doing nothing. I had some periods in 2014, where for 14 days, my heart would stop and then the next beat pounds hard. It also feels like a suction in the chest, below the sternum. It would happen about 10 times a minute, all day long.

I imagine this was PVC. I didn't go to the ER since I was sick of going, so I don't know if it was PVCs for sure. I was wondering if the bisoprolol was the cause back then.

It can happen still today on a very rare occasion (1 or 2 per day).

Are you comfortable with 49 bpm? I'm wondering if it causes dizziness.

I totally understand the all over the place vital signs. I really try not to pay much attention to the darn vital sign machine anymore. I was driving myself crazy with it. The only time I do check is if I feel like I am going to pass out, if I see floaters or if I hear my heart pounding in my ears. For me and because of the rapid fluctuations in BP and HR throughout the day... I just hydrate and do the salt like I am supposed to. To bring my heart rate down... the more fluids the better and the excess fluids do not seem to drive my BP higher. I am prescribed to do 4 liters of fluid and 4,000 mg of sodium a day now, but there have been days where I have done up to six or 7 liters when I have had medical procedures done. In my case it seems the more fluids the better, but we do have to be careful with that too. The best thing I did was to get a loop monitor put in so that I don't have to worry about the heart rate. If my heart rate falls below 40bpm or goes above 140 bpm I am alerted by my doctors office, and if I have a cardiac event all I have to do is push a button and place a small device on my chest and it will automatically transmit to doc... if it something that requires medical intervention I will be notified. It takes a lot of guess work out of things for me. Of course if I am feeling very symptomatic I proceed to the ER anyway. The loop recorder is good for 3 years and is very small and placed intradermally in the chest. Best thing that I ever did!

Hi again... thanks for everyone's response. Back in 2008 I had a reveal loop recorder put me and we kept it in till 2011....I was getting heart rates as low as 35, and still getting random high heart rates. But my cardiologist who I think is great is very cautious so he was on the fence about putting a pacemaker in. And because I have neurological conditions that require me to get MRI's done he really didn't want to do it unless it's a last resort. So we decided to take out the loop recorder.

Big trouble... I start to feel weak when my heart rate goes below 60, so when it's down in the 40's I can barely stand up and if my bp is high at the same time I start to feel sick. I'm sent another message to my dr's office yesterday and an still waiting to hear back. If I;m still like this tomorrow I'm calling.
