Have You Applied For Disability?

When I was working I found out that I had autonomic dysfunction and because I would get weak and dizzy, I had to constantly sit down. I applied for disability and was rejected so I applied for a second opinion, (this took about a year each time). After the second rejection I saw an ad on the TV where the lawyer would handle the case for no fee up front and take a portion of your award after the case was won, but nothing if the case is was not won. I dont think they would take the case if they didn't think they would win the case, (thats just my opiinion). Anyway after three years I won the case. In the first rejection letter they said my disease was not serious enough and that all I needed to do was take a pill. (if they only knew). Some of us look like there is nothing wrong but in the winter, I am afraid to go out by myself and in the summer, the only time I go out is early in the morning before the sun comes out. If that is not a disability I don't know what is. I think every one that has this disease should apply fo disability.

Hi there. I've been diagnosed with POTS for over 4 years and just last summer I was awarded social security disability. They denied me twice, stating that I still had use of my legs and arms. I responded that my arms and legs often get numb especially if I do anything that require me to get out of my bed. They also told me there is medicine I can take. I take a lot of medicine and that hasn't fixed me yet. I know the medicine allows me to do some things for without it I wouldn't be able to get out of bed but I still have lots of trouble with daily activities.

Eventually they summoned me to appear in court and by that time I hired a laywer who deals specifically with social security disability claims. They did a lot of the paper filing for me which was great because reading one page of a 20+page document gives me a migraine.

They prepped me for my appearance in front of the judge. It's a set fee that they take out. I'm not sure if I would have gotten it without them.

I must add that I had been to the Mayo Clinic, several local doctors and specialists, and was currently going to Stanford. I had hundreds and hundreds of pages of medical tests and dr. notes stating my inability to work because of the symptoms I had on a daily basis. That's the key; proper documentation. And a Doctor (or multiple doctors) stating specific reasons why you can't work and why you are disabled.

Best of luck.

I know from experience (though unfortunately not my own) that there are some of us able to work. I truly wish I was one of them. Some are able to work part time others even full time. Though we share the same disease we aren't all affected the same way.

I'm glad you won your case needafix but I'm also glad for those of us who are able to work!!!

i got mine the first time on my own no lawyer..one of the lucky ones...and it was before i ever went to mayo..but my doctor was the one who told me to file and i had pretty good paper work...even after i was awarded disability due to my age at the time they refused to give it to me untill they reviewed my case again..which made me mad because i lost my house due to the extra two months it took..but again they gave me the disability..they send me papers every 3 years to fill out..and if they want to review your case they will contact your doctor..they have not done that to me yet.. again i usually have a lot of paper work to back me up..i have heard they reject about 90% of cases the first time hoping you will just forget it..with a lawyer i don't think i have heard of anyone not getting it..not saying some haven't ..good luck..long process.

and i am glad really now that i lost my house and had to move because i love where i live now and will never move again my house is paid for and no one can take it from me...

I learned a long time ago never say never. I am glad that people are applying for and winning their disability cases. Some people don't even know they could and should apply. Every case is different and is handled differently. You are right medical documentation is very, very important.
