Surgery And General Anesthesia

Hi everyone!

For one of my Dutch POTSpals who's needing major surgery within 4 weeks I'm searching for more info on this subject. Like me she's having lots of problems whith gen. an. and so far I haven't found much on this topic on the internet. I came up with one article on a very specific case (pregnant woman) which I thought too specific to work with. In all honesty I'm not even sure whether it's the general anesthesia or the stress surgery causes the body that makes some of us so sick but I thought to give it a chance and ask you all for help. Do any of you know of any other (peer reviewed) articles than the one I found, to learn more?

Corina,

I didn't have a second to look at the above links for forgive me if all I'm doing is repeating what was already mentioned.

The most important thing your friend can do is explain (probably even gather some info just incase) that she has POTS. When I was put under ans for a procedure, the anethesiologist was the most important doctor to talk to. He gave me 2 liters of fluids before the procedure and then another liter when I was finished. Also, I'm not sure how high her heart rate can get, but the anesthiologist also reccomended to the doctor performing the tests to have IV beta blockers on hand incase of a spike during.

Hope your friends does well! Good luck to her
