Hi,

Yes, it's a fancy wheelchair. It is custom made for me. They had to take my measurement. It is so comfortable. I would not have bought it if it did not change into a bed because I cannot sit straight for more than 30 minutes.

I went to a specialised store where the owner his himself in a wheelchair.

The only thing that is missing on my wheelchair is a cabin and a heater (like on agricultural tractors). It even has a special set of wheels to climb on sidewalks that don't have the special wheelchair slope.

The seat is made of a special material that molds to your body. The tires cannot have a flat. The salesman gave them to me for free (worth 200$) because he thought that I would be in a bad spot if I got a flat with my disorder. It was nice of him to think about that.

The feet elevate electrically. I just have to push on a button and it raises. I have 10 different speeds.

I was fine thoughout and after my trip because I was reclining most of the time. The only time I was sitting was when I was in Canadian Tire because the aisle were too narrow to travel reclining. So when I got home I still had the same energy as before I left. I would even say that I had more because I was nourrished by my outing!

There was not to much overstimulation because it is a long week-end here in Canada and many are gone to their country house for the week-end.

It's funny because when I was alone on the bicycle trail I was driving straight. When I saw people coming and especially children I was zigzaging. I was doing so bad when kids were around that I had to move at the slowest speed. One kid actually thought I was playing with my "toy". In a way I was. I heard his mother say that I am in a wheelchair because I am sick.

Hi Julia,

I remember the syncope at MCO bookstore. I had a reclining wheelchair then and I could not take it in the aisle so I had to get off the wheelchair and sit on the floor to look at the books. I was shopping for Dr Grubb Syncope book and I had told the cashier that my standing time before syncope was 2 minutes.

So before getting up to go to the cashier I checked to see if there was a line up and there was nobody. So I got up and went to the cashier. I got there first and 2 other people got there after me. The cashier decided to serve the other 2 before me because they only had one article each and I had 4. I did not want to say anything because I have learned that even if I mention that I was there before the others cashiers often ignore me. So I was there trying to stay calm and telling myself that it would go fine. They had folded my wheelchair in a corner and I could not get to it by myself. My bestfriend was looking at books in another aisle and I did not know where she was.

I took out my credit car to pay and felt like I was going to pass out soon. I told the cashier that I was in deep trouble and she just said: "Have a nice day." I barely had time to tell her: "Get my friend please!" and I was unconsious on the floor with intense tremors/convulsions.

When I woke up there was a security guard or police officer there and I was so confused that I asked him if I was going to jail. He reassured me saying that they don't send sick people to jail. I felt so stupid for thinking like that but my mind was off and I could not remember what had happened. It's my best friend and the cashier who told me after.

It cost me 1,000$ out of pocket to go to the ER. I think the ER doctor spend 5 minutes with me. Very expensive syncope!

I have told my best friend that from now on if I faint in the States tell the people not to send me to the ER because I don't have any insurance. I am kind of worried about it because I am going back to Dr Grubb in August.

The good thing is that I got an IV and I was able to go to the conference on Friday night. It was a very worthwile trip and I am glad you came to visit me.

Love

Ernie
