Vase Breathing For Improved Circulation

Has anyone tried this? Some Buddhist monks demonstrated that they could keep warm in extreme temperatures by doing vase breathing. I have tried it (following instructions online). It feels beneficial. You do abdominal breathing without completely exhaling between breaths (if I've got it right). Maybe this means your body continues to be able to absorb oxygen from the lungs even on an out breath?
