It can. Do you have pain when you eat? Especially fried or fatty foods?

These are the typical signs of a gallbladder attack:

Moderate to severe pain under the right side of the rib cage

Pain may radiate through to the back or to the right shoulder

Severe upper abdominal pain

Nausea

Queasiness

Vomiting

Gas

Burping or belching

Attacks are often at night

Attacks often occur after overeating

Pain will often but not always follow a meal with fats or grease

Pain may be worse with deep inhalation

If the ultrasound comes back normal and the pain continues, don't let them tell you your gallbladder is fine. I had a perfectly normal ultrasound but a HIDA scan, where they check how well your gallbladder is functioning based on how well it ejects bile, showed that it severely dysfunctional. There can be several problems beyond having stones.

  • 2 weeks later...

You will have severe pain with a gallbladder attack in the location you described. I had my gallbladder removed July 2011 after an extremely painful attack. I was in the ER twice within 18 hours, and had surgery scheduled 3 days later. I had extreme nausea and INTENSE pain (worse than labor!!). I could not stand up straight, and had projectile vomiting....TMI, I know lol. They did an ultrasound at the ER, and I was full of stones and sludge.

If in doubt, or your are hurting, go get it checked out!!!

Hope you start to feel better really soon!
