Amitryptoline

Hello everyone. Need help with this new med. Recent cardiologist that I saw recomended taking very small dose 10mg of amytryptoline for 2-3 month. I already heard it from another cardiologist but didn't follow his treatment plan so never felt on the med. Due to recomendation of this new cardio doc I started the med 5 days ago. Anyone here tried this med and did it help at all with symptoms.

Also, I am experiencing chest pains almost everyday, which all cardiac docs say its not cardio related based on my numerous testing. However, I read that Amitryptoline can cause things like heart attack and some heart blockage. It scares me a lot because I already experience chest pains. I questioned this from the doctor, but he said it is not advisable to take this med in certain patients who have some prolong wave on EKG and who already have some heart problem and this doesn't concern me at all. But I am afraid what if the pains that I experience are due to microvascular or Pritzmentals angina. I am not on amy beta or calcium channel blocker. I was thinking about trying calcium channel blocker to see if it helps with chest pains.

So, now I am scared because online it says that crushing chest pains are severe side effect of amitryptoline. I did have chest pains before going on the med, but now since being on the med and having these pains how would I know if its due to med or just my usual pains.

I also withdrew from xanax 9 weeks ago and still think I am going thru withdrawals and chest pains can be one of them. This is so confusing. I really want to give Amytryp a chance and see maybe it will help my disautonomia, but so scared.

If anyone knows about this med or tried it, please share your experinece.

Thanks.

Sorry I missed this also. Tyler has tried this but it did not help with anything. Not even sleep or pain levels.

I took amitriptylin 10mg for 18 months and found it helped sleep and pain immensely but I had to discontinue it after seeing a Mayo Neuro who said it would increase my POTS symptoms. It interfers with sudomotor function ( sweat glands ). While I was on it I did not notice any difference in the amount of chest pain I regularly experience.

Hi Gemma,

Actually it was ordered for fibromyalgia pain which it helped rather a lot. I regularly have sharp stabbing left sided chest pain. It is not a musculoskeletal type of pain but is maybe related to having POTS. That pain was not affected one way or the other by taking Amitriptylin. Dr. Raj touches on chest pain in some of his POTS articles. If you feel as if you are having any sort of cardiac side effects from taking Amitriptylin you need to contact your Cardiologist. Because we do experience so many disconcerting symptoms with just having POTS it does make it difficult to discern what is a medication related side effect and what is another POTS related symptom. If in doubt call your doctor.

Thank you all for replies. So, I guess no one was really prescribed this med for the POTS. My primary keeps on pushing on this med and says that it will help me. However, I spoke to some other POTS specialists and they say that it can lower my BP even more, making POTS worse. But every time I go see my primary, he says did you start taking amitryptoline again. Ohh, i really do not want to change primary doc again. It will be a third one in the last year and a half. However, I really do not like that he keeps on pushing this med on me saying that it will help my POTS, and that he saw some POTS patients benefit from it, when so many other POTS specialists say that they think it will make my BP drop even more and make me feel worse.

I am confused. But thank you all for replies.
