jbeanblake72
Hoping someone can help me. I have a 15 year old son that is in the 10th grade. His school nurse sent home papers for me to sign regarding his health care plan that is part of his IEP. (He is also on the autism spectrum) I got plans for the asthma and anaphylaxis. When I called her to ask about the EDS and POTS I was told that I needed to write those plans myself. Giving them the info I felt the school needed to know and what they needed to do in an emergency I don't want to write a book, and I seem to be overwhelmed. Wondering if anyone here as a plan they have used in the past they would like to share, or ideas for me. Thanks!!Jennifer
looneymom
Hi JenniferDon't know what state you live in but because this is a medical condition that may interfere with his cognitive abilities, his special education teacher should be writing this plan for you. The problem is that she/he may not know how this affects him in his educational needs. My advice is to call a meeting and tell them what EDS and POTS is. When I enrolled my son in school last year, I came with information from MAYO explaining the condition. The Dyna Kids website has information for the school on it. I believe it talks about modifications and accommodations. My son is attending an online school at home, so accommodations are quite easily made. However, if your child is attending a public school, you will need to have a meeting with the special education teacher. If need be call the special education director and tell them your problem. The director should be able to handle this problem for you. Rachel
Christy_D
Dynakids.org has very good print outs to give to the school. My sons school appreciated it when i printed it out for them. They gave a copy to each of his teachers. He graduated in May but his school always did everything they could to help.
