Guest maia Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Hi Everyone, It has just been determined that a dropped kidney is the cause of my POTS. There is a link here that is updated as I find out new information and my symptoms are listed here: http://forums.dinet.org/index.php?/topic/23727-pots-check-your-kidneys-please-read/page-4I am going in for testing before this is fixed and am going to ask for any test i can think of that may make diagnosing this easier in other people. If any of you have similar symptoms or can think of any tests that you had done that were not quite normal, would you mind telling me the name of the test so i can ask to have that test done before this is repaired and after? I would like to have as much done as possible so others dont have to live like this when it is not necessary. Please list any tests you think may be relevant. Thank you. Quote
HopeSprings Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Not sure if laying and standing catecholamines would be relevant here? Or urine testing for blood? I've had blood in my urine for years with no explanation. I did have an abdominal? CT scan which showed some narrowing of the renal vein and a laying, sitting and standing renal ultrasound which showed the vein gets compressed when sitting and standing. Not sure if any of this relates to your situation, but figured I'd mention just in case. Keep us posted on you. Quote
Guest maia Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Naomi, that is absolutely relevant-and even if it wasnt im open to any and all suggestions here even if they seem way out there. Have you seen a kidney doc? Standing and supine catecholamines were mentioned and i think they are on the list. Im going to make sure. i have ua's done all the time, no blood-at least ive been told they are 'normal'- but im sure thats part of routine pre ops so it will be done too. List so far:standing and supine catecholaminesua Quote
AshleyPooh Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) I would consider a metabolic panel. The reason I say this is that if your kidney is affected, you could be losing out on important electrolytes that could make your pots worse, and could treat with supplementation until then. You might want to get your sodium, albumin and stuff checked. Sodium clearly we all know why that's important, but Albumin is a good indicator of dehydration among other problems.I actually found a blood work results from back in 2010 showing out of range high albumin, but the doctor never said a word to me about it. makes me wonder what it is nowadays. (btw i have dehydration problems all the time lol, even though i drink tons of water) Edited July 7, 2013 by corina medical advice Quote
