imapumpkin
no...echo's you're heart. mitochondrial abnormalities are your genes and DNA. you'd have to go to genetic counseling or at least meet witha geneticist. blood tests, dna sequencing..those kinds of tests. MomtoGiuliana
There is a ton of past discussion on this. You can research it by using the search feature. Here is one recent thread:http://forums.dinet.org/index.php?/topic/22268-mitochondrial-disease-testing-at-mayo-clinic/?hl=mitochondrial
kitt
Mitochochondrial dysfunction is and has been a primary aspect of CFS known for decades. Am not saying it's the cause or the result of CFS but an inability to produce ATP has been a known aspect of CFS since the mid 1980's.It's been one of Dr. Cheney's primary topics since that time, (I was a patient of Dr. Cheney's for 15 years). This is very specific to CFS, (not suggesting it's not also in pots patients as well), but the research on this has been done 'en mass' in CFS patients. But one of many, many articles on mito dysfunction and CFS.http://drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/CFS_-_The_Central_Cause:_Mitochondrial_Failure
Achilles2323
A lot of people with pots ....do they wind up having g mito disease or is it rare ?
imapumpkin
It's not as cut and dry as saying it's rare. Yes, often people with POTS also have genetic issues as well but not all of them do.
Chaos
Traditional medicine docs tend to think of mito disease as something you're born with so they tend to look at you weird when you introduce the concept of a possible mito issue. They figure if you weren't diagnosed with it as a baby/young child you don't have it. Docs who understand POTS/CFS etc are more aware of the idea that there seem to be acquired forms of mito disease but it's still hard to get testing done for it and currently doesn't seem to be much in the way of treatment for it even if you get the diagnosis. There are several ways of testing for it including some types of exercise testing that they think show mito disease (like the 2 day exercise testing) but again, it's hard to find places to do that as well. You can also search some of Rachael and Potluck's posts as I know they've addressed this topic specifically.
