Guest tearose
Although I have an excellent internist, he wanted me to follow up with a specialist for the dysautonomia. Since 1991 the only really good doctors for adults, based upon my years of living with POTS, were back at Mayo in MN. (You think I would have found something in NYC!) Now I don't make recommendations lightly and I have very high standards when it comes to suggesting anyone in the medical profession. I kept up on the news of a developing autonomic nervous system testing center that was in nearby CT. I even waited to follow up in person with Dr. Frederick Nahm, a dysautonomia/neurologist doctor I've been speaking by phone with for several months. YES, he even returns phone calls! I met with him in person today. He is very current on all the latest treatment plans and has an execllent working knowledge of the many aspects of autonomic dysfunction. He even considered what my other health challenges were doing to me! Today I am pleased to report that on a scale of 1-10 he rates an 8.5! This brings me much joy since I was over due to return to Mayo Clinic, MN and live in NY. I finally don't feel the need to go back to Mayo! Life's simple pleasures are the best!Just wanted to share the good news, tearose
ethansmom
That is wonderful!! I'm really happy for you- it's not very often we find good docs close to home. I am going through that right now- y one and only POTS doc is not returning calls or doing anything for me at all, so I am going to need to go doctor searching very soon Too bad I don't live near CT!! Anyhow it's always good to hear positive news- I wish you the best!!
MightyMouse
Nice to have another resource to refer to. Greenwich is about 2.5 hours from my home, and only about a half hour from my mom's & both my sister's homes in CT. Thanks for sharing the info.Nina

MightyMouse
If you're in Northern NJ, it's only about an hour and a half. I'm in far southern NJ, just outside of Philly and it's less than 3 hours for me.nina
scamelo
HiI am in North western NJ, on boarder with Easton PA, per mapquest it is about 2 hours. I will check back hear to see who is gone etc and how it went. I just came back from CCF, so I want to give some time for the lopressor, new knee highs, salt diet etc to see how that will go. I will probably try to get an appt if all goes well sometime in the late spring or summer.I see he takes my insurance which is good, and he is a neurologist. Please keep us posted if you have gone and if your satisfied. Thanks againSilvia
Guest tearose
Let's make this Greenwich, Connecticut location the east coast place to go for treatment and diagnosis.!!! I'm going to meet with Dr. Nahm and take a tour the ANS laboratory this Wednesday. I'm going to request that he consider setting up an information center here to be available for those of us with dysautonomia and for the doctors who treat us. I'd like to see a conference happen in late 2004 or early 2005. It would be a conference for both the medical professionals and laypeople. Please give me your ideas and suggestions to take with me for this meeting! What would we want to see there? How far are we willing to travel for the services? What kind of literature are we looking for?We have the opportunity to give this input so let's do so! With hope, tearose
