ramakentesh Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I was speaking to a guy on dys connect with small fiber neuropathy and pots and he said it caused him bad itching? Anyone else? Quote
Guest Alex Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I had several bad head to toe, inside and out (it felt like my internal organs were affected) itching episodes since being diagnosed with POTS but my dr completely disregarded that symptom. He ordered some blood work that came back negative for whatever he was looking for - wish I know what it was... When I brought up neuropathy, I was told that it's a progressive condition - my sx were on and off, mostly off. It's been a while since my last episode so it could have been that I was experiencing some med side effects...or who knows.I did read about peripheral neuropathy manifesting itself as pruritus though, so it's definitely something worth exploring if you have such symptoms.Alex Quote
HopeSprings Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I get episodes of what I would describe as nerve itching. I'll feel an itch on my arm, quickly goes away, get one on my leg, gone, and moves from spot to spot all over my body. It's not a superficial itch that can be relieved by scratching - it's deeper. It's hard to describe.Alex - when I first got off benzos, I had these episodes every night to an extreme degree. It took months to settle down, but got less and less over time. Now I get this only once in a while. Could be the benzos for you. Quote
tinkerbella Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Oh my I itch like crazy!!!!! Insurance just cut my allergy meds that I was taking twice a day. Grrrr, I also take a form of gastrocrom in my lotion now, as it was making me swell by mouth. H2 blockers, stomach meds, and mast cell meds. Funny how all of this is making sense after all these years... Since the cut in insurance my arm has been breaking out in hives... I now have another med, but I also breakthrough itch. Life is a Big Itch. I used to ITCH my ankles raw... My head would itch like crazy at night... I'm going to mention this to the doctor next time. Thanks for bringing it up Rama. Quote
issie Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Some people are finding if they can't take the GastroCrom that ketotifen is a good fit for their mast cell issues. I think you have to get it from Canada if you're in the States. It's only available as an eye drop here.Issie Quote

It's not just itching, it's a whole bunch of other weird sensations - I guess my nervous system is simply re-adjusting. Alex Quote
Guest Alex Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 forgot to mention- taking antihistamines (like benadryl) doesn't help a bit with the itching, so I know it's not an allergic reaction. Quote
westernmass Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 My head itches like crazy too! And I can never find the "spot" causing the itching. An area on my stomach gets episodes of extreme itchiness, sometimes my legs... Never correlated it with POTS so this is very interesting... Quote
westernmass Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 ^^but this has started since developing POTS. Just wanted to add that. Quote
tinkerbella Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Anyone have their nose itch like crazy when you go out to eat? Nothing really stops it... by the time my topical cream and antihistamine have kicked in dinner is over and my nose is red like a clown *<(:oD)" Quote
comfortzone Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Hi. I have SFN & itch like crazy. The vascular docs thought it was varicose vein related but I do not. I recently clawed myself up all over and was put on steroids to make this rash that developed go away...I hate prednisone but I was bleeding everywhere from scratching so had to do it. Not hives though...just itchy skin on legs that gets red dot like bumpy rehash then itching spreads like wildfire! Quote
peregrine Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 I only itch when I'm visibly pooling blood - e.g. after a shower. But the itching then is super-fierce, and the only thing that removes it is sitting down and raising my legs. I do have probable SFN (based on QSART, not biopsy), but I tend to have more numbness in my feet rather than itching. Quote
RichGotsPots Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Itching is a very common sensory neuropathy symptom.. Quote
ramakentesh Posted April 1, 2013 Author Report Posted April 1, 2013 i sometimes get nights of intense and over the top itching that drive me crazy. Usually in a flare. Quote
ramakentesh Posted April 1, 2013 Author Report Posted April 1, 2013 All over my body, not just my feet or hands. Its very strange and its very annoying - worst around my right pelvis where it gets numb Quote
tinkerbella Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 It drive me insane @ times. I'm itching right now!!! Quote
RichGotsPots Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 If there is no visual rash its a good chance its small fiber sensory neuropathy itching.. Quote
