HopeSprings
For a long time I've been dealing with this pressure in my lower abdominal/pelvic area. It's worse when I first get up in the morning, so I assumed it was blood pooling. Went for my annual gyn visit and told her about it. She examined and said I have uterine prolapse which could explain the sensation. I asked if it could be from pregnancy - she said something like... yes, but most women don't get this and I'm kind of young for it. She said to follow up in 6 months to make sure it's stable and if not, she would send me to another type of specialist (forget which type) and that there are ways to deal with it. She's also sending me for an ultrasound. Does anyone else have this or know anything about it? Thanks.
Katybug
I don't have it but I know it is common in women with EDS. I don't know if you have any other symptoms of EDS but its worth looking into.
Chaos
Like Katie said, it's common with EDS. I know you have been questioning if you have EDS or not. Since the prolapse is occurring at a young age, I would suspect that would put it in the category of adding to the suspicion that you do. issie
I had a bladder and uterine prolapse at age 25 ---probably due to EDS for me. They do suspensions by tacking the ligaments that hold the organ, up. It can usually be done through a scope.Issie
jkoconne
Have you been checked for pelvic floor dysfunction? It caused a rectal prolapse in me...im 21. The doc said its common in women who are older and have had kids. Im neither...things happen..
HopeSprings
Thanks for the info. Katie - I saw a geneticist for possible EDS and she couldn't confirm whether I have it or not! Chaos- When I go back to follow up with her, I'll mention this and see if it adds to the suspicion. Issie - did this happen to you spontaneously or after childbirth or...? Did you do anything about it?Jkoconne- What is pelvic floor dysfunction? Well I guess at 40, I am older and I do have had kids... darn, now I feel old! lol Have you been evaluated for EDS, given the POTS and the prolapse? issie
No childbirth on my part. But, it was found after the fact of a ruptured appendix. Had both suspended.Issie
jrlehnardt
Yes, the prolapse can be from eds. Some people can have babies and never have a problem down there, others may not have gone through childbirth and have it. I had bladder and uterine prolapse at 23. By 26 I had bladder, rectal, and uterine prolapse. Non surgical options did not work for me. I had to have a hysterectomy to correct the uterus from prolapsing. I also had a cystocele repair to fix the prolapsed bladder during my hysterectomy. After fixing those my rectocele was not too bad , so I didnt have it fixed at that time. My bladder stayed up in its spot up until about 10 months ago, so it lasted for about 6 years. The success rate isnt super high. They actually are pretty upfront , letting me know that I will most likely have to have it done again and that it probably will drop. Well it did. Since I didnt have my rectocele fixed back then, it has just consistently gotten worse, and with my bladder dropping this year, I really need to have a rectocele and cystocele repair. My doctor is just waiting for me to give him the go ahead to schedule it. I am just waiting til I am healthier to go through a surgery. But in the mean time I am baring through some bad symptoms on bad days. And I have been going to a pelvic floor physical therapist over the last 4-5 years. Which has been a big help too. Unfortunately not enough to not have the surgery though.
issie
jrlehnardt, My heart goes out to you. I so well know surgeries. With my issues, I had 8 abdominal surgeries and my last abdominal one was when I was 36 and had a complete hysterectomy. I haven't had to have any more repair work - thankfully. I so hope this will be your last one and you come through it beautifully and with some really good pain meds and a fast recovery. HopeSprings
Sorry, Jrlehnardt and Issie - that's a lot to go through at such a young age.
Rachel Cox
Hiya, I have just got out of hospital after having surgery for uterine prolapse, cystocele and rectocele, plus a TVT sling for my bladder. Unfortunately post-surgery I had (and am having) all sorts of dysautonomia fun. They really didn't know what to do with some of what my body was doing post op! Anyhoooo, I am home now and impatiently waiting for all the swelling to go down so I can evaluate the success. I am one of the lucky 4% who have post surgery nerve pain from the permanent sacro-spinus stitches. It is awfully painful and I am on high dose pain relief... but it is early days. My uro-gynae felt that the surgery would provide a big improvement in my comfort level downstairs. I had to have a supra-pubic port for a bladder bag for a week and a half but I am two days free of the bag and getting closer to voiding without catheterisation each time I pee. It is a slow process but I am really looking forward to having a better time with my bladder function as time goes on. I am 38 and my prolapse happened more than two years after my son was born. It was due to urinary retention and dysmotility, not childbirth. I wish you every good outcome for your issues and I do hope you find the right solution for you. It is never nice having to deal with any 'downstairs' stuff! Let us know how you get on...
