Crazy Er Visit

I went to the ER yesterday because I hadn't slept/ eaten much at all for three days due to extreme nausea. Surprisingly, they didn't treat me like I was nuts! (Yay!) And they gave me three bags of fluids without even asking! (Double Yay!). They also gave me a "GI cocktail" of may lox and lidocaine, which helped a tiny amount. They gave me phenergan in the IV. I have had the pill form of phenergan orally and I was fine in the past. I had a horrible adverse reaction to it in the IV. I started shaking and my eyes were fluttering and I was blacking out even though they elecated my feet above my head. My heart rate was in the 170's. There I stayed for the next eight hours until it wore off. They prescribed me a new nausea medication and I'm going to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as soon as I can.

Oh no! im sorry to hear that happened! Hope you're feeling better! I have also done fine with certain oral meds and then terrible reactions when given in an IV...its such a scary feeling when thoes reactions hit :( Im glad it ended for you! Hope you never have to deal with it again!

3 bags of fluid sound like heaven to me right now...my stomach is not allowing me to get enough fluids the past few days.

Sorry about the reaction you had puppy love, those can be so scary! But I am very glad that the ER was helpful and nice to you, that can make such a huge difference. Hope children's is able to help you! I am originally from PA and had spent a week in children's when I was 13 (they never did find out 100% what was wrong with me, surprise, surprise ;)) but I remember everyone being very nice.

Hey puppy love,

I forgot to mention in my last post that the times I have been okay taking oral medication and then having a reaction when given through an IV had to due with my liver enzymes not processing medication properly. You can message me for details but most docs know what this means now. Its a simple blood test. The test saved me from many more negative reactions!

not sure if this will help at all but i thought id pass some info on
