Strange Thing With Eyes After Potsy Episode

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have noticed that one pupil gets real big occasionally. This only mildly concerns me. The thing is, I just happened to be in the bathroom, had bent over the tub, and had a really bad pots spell when I came up. I don't really know what prompted me to do this, but I looked in the mirror after I got myself together, and all I could see was the black of my eyes they were so dilated. I did a cover test, and neither pupil reacted at all, meaning they did not constrict. Sooo strange... After a while, things went back to normal. Now I have had bad symptoms since, and sure enough, my eyes keep doing it every time I get a potsy feeling. Hmm, anyone else happen to notice their eyes do this after???

My right pupil gets really dilated when I am feeling really bad. It was my primary care physician who first noticed it. He referred me to an opthalmologist who diagnosed me with Adie's tonic pupil. I have since learned that this is a pretty common problem with Dysautonomia, but I don't know what causes it.

I think I remember someone else making a thread about this, if you want to search for it. My pupils are always very dilated, but they are the same size.

That's the thing, I have noticed them being unequal off and on for a while... Today after a bad pots spell, they both dilated and did not constrict when I shined light... Just another oddity I guess :-)

My GI did the light shining test and said mine don't constrict like they're supposed to. I get the uneven dilation also. That's when I tell my boys I'm a vampire. HAHA! Have to throw some humor in with this disorder. I notice a difference in my vision when they are uneven, everything gets blurry on that one side.

sometimes my pupils are slightly different sizes but they are always more dilated than they should be and i have to wear sunglasses whenever i am outside, even if it is overcast. The autonomic nervous system controls pupil dilation so it makes perfect sense that after a potsy episode you would be having dilation abnormalities.

It's called anisocoria.

It's almost certain that it's fine and just part of this condition. Pupil control falls under the ANS.

I tell everyone when they first notice it though, to get their noggin' scanned just to make sure because it can be a sign of something more serious.

Most likely it will be a waste of your time but it's better than not knowing.

I have it in low light. I also have hippus. My pupil will pulse quickly when trying to adjust from light changes. Only one eye is prominent but when I saw the specialist he said my other eye was doing odd things too. I never found out what that was because he sent me straight upstairs to opthamologist neurologist.

My ANS neurologist found this - it was her first "hunh, that's weird" note during the standard neurological exam. She says in my case it's not Adie's pupil, though I'm not entirely sure why. Incorrect dilation (not light responsive) and/or uneven dilation doesn't seem to be entirely correlated with my frequent episodes of blurred vision, though partner and others have noticed both. The clonidine has mostly removed the blurriness, though I don't know if it's had any impact on the dilation. As far as I know in my case it's benign but annoying.
