khaarina
Every day for about a year now I've had a ridiculous time trying to get up in the morning. I no longer set an alarm, I threaten murder if my family wakes me up before my body does, I let myself sleep as long as I need to, but still I wake up incredibly weak (not fatigue). The weakness is most obvious in my hands, for the first ten minutes or so after waking I can barely make a fist, but it is everywhere else too. It's like my body is still mostly asleep. I eventually recover, but it takes hours. I have a lot of insomnia, but this waking problem doesn't improve on the nights when I fall asleep easier. I've had my adrenals tested and the doc said they were fine. I've had 2 MRI's that were normal. I've also had a sleep study done, but I was only able to sleep for about 3 hours during it. The report said I move a lot and snore a little (this is new since I've been sick) but no apparent sleep apnea. Does anyone know if this is a normal dysautonomia symptom? kalamazoo
I know that when I wake up my heart rate is always super high, I'm always extremely tired and slow and feel out of breath. And eati makes it worse.
brethor9
yeah mornings are not good I also don't sleep well at night due to pain, tachy, night sweats, etc etc......never feel good upon waking.....I think our bodies go through a lot during the night that we don't consciously notice and we also wake up dehydrated. First thing I try to do is fill up on fluids before even attempting to get out of bed.Bren
SeattleRain
I haven't been diagnosed with POTS (yet!) but I completely feel your pain! Waking up even a half an hour earlier than I would want to is nearly impossible. I've also had sleep problems for a long time. Getting to sleep is often very difficult, and I wake up maybe 30 - 50 times each night (awaking from sleep, then falling right back to sleep). In regards to waking up I find that drinking a tall glass of water is make or break for how I feel in the morning. I prefer not to drink water right away, but I do it anyways and it really helps me. I keep a jug of water by my bed for this reason. Just out of curiosity, were you ever on sleeping pills (Ambien, Lunesta?)
khaarina
I was on Ambien and it definitely helped me fall asleep, but my doctor wouldn't prescribe it this last time because I'm trying Florinef for the first time and he wants to see how I do on it. I also drink a glass of water before I get up. It does seem to help me recover faster. It's so strange to say that I have to recover from sleeping! SeattleRain
Interesting. I was on Ambien a few years ago. It worked good at first but then people started telling me I called them in the wee hours of the morning, or texted them - saying really bizarre things.Do you enjoy your sleep? I find the best time for me (symptom wise, and how good I feel) is when I'm sleeping. Ironically, waking up and falling asleep is the worst time for me in the day. Canadiangirl73
I always wake up a bit tachy with the intense feeling of being startled (hate the latter!). Before I even attempt to sit up, I drink 500 mL of water and eat olives (kinda gross but they're super salty!). I take Metoprolol, 12.5 mg, and lorazepam,0.5 mg. Then have another 300 mL of an electrolyte drink. I'm usually able to sit up around 10:30 am and can get up around noon. I used to be productive in the am but not anymore. micheller
I have problems falling asleep from my reflux and nausea but once I'm asleep, I'm out. I'm really stiff and weak when I wake up. I usually lay in bed for a bit and move my feet and hands. If I try to get up right away my legs/ankles will give out.

I usually lay in bed for a bit and move my feet and hands. If I try to get up right away my legs/ankles will give out.I get a similar thing. They tried Phenergan for the nausea but it just made me more tachy. I have started taking my beta blocker at night and it helps a ton with the morning but it contributes to my insomnia. So far, Xanax has been good for the insomnia and nausea when it gets bad but I don't want to make a habit of using Xanax either. I've been trying sipping ginger ale before sleeping to help with the nausea. Haven't figured out a natural solution for the insomnia yet. Before I started the Beta Blocker at night, I used to wake up in the morning with 100-110 resting heart rate that would shoot up to 160 on standing. Now, I only get up to about 120 on standing in the morning. That's a bit of an improvement - not perfect of course but feels a lot better. Jacquie802
The mornings are very hard for me. It takes me approx. a half hour before I am up and moving around.
AllAboutPeace
khaarina,I also relate to what you are describing. I have describe it as "I feel like I'm waking out of hibernation or a coma" - it's like everything slowly gets functional. The Florinef has actually helped me with this symptom, so I hope it will help you too! In 11 months, the one and only day that I didn't feel that way in the morning was after I had IV saline the day before. I was able to get up out of bed in a short amount of time. Now, that I'm taking Florinef, in general my mornings have improved. As a side note, It did take me 4 weeks of taking it before I really saw the full benefits. Since both the saline and Florinef have helped with this, it would appear that low blood volume was an issue for me.
Angela
mornings feel like ****! I take my klonopin, drink a glass of water and lay on the couch watching cartoons with my son for 1/2 hr before I force myself to get ready for work. Afternoon/evenings are usually much better right now although for quite a spell I was having tremors and hearing/visual distortion come and go throughout the day. Gerrik1
Mornings are the worse. if I have had insomnia the night before just forget it the next morning. Going to try drinking more before I get up. Makes sence, I drink all day long then night comes and I don't drink at all. Very dizzy, tachy and weak in mornings. Have been for years
Tuesday
Mornings are awful!I almost feel drunk every morning when I wake up - weak, dizzy, lightheaded, and it's hard to focus my eyes. I am woozy and headachey and it takes me almost an hour to really get to a point where I feel I can function. I also get the weakness, where you can't even make a fist. It's pretty common for me to wake up in the middle of the night for a few hours, and I also have a really hard time falling asleep because of the reflux. I've actually woken up in the middle of the night choking on acid, it was one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. I couldn't breathe for what felt like forever. I do have some good mornings, and some are certainly worse than others. Florinef and salt tabs seem to help a lot, and I am switching my diet to see if that helps, too. misstraci
I think I can concur with you all that mornings are no good!!! First of all, I don't want to get up because I feel like I didn't sleep at all (super tired and sleepy still) or either, I really didn't sleep at all. I flip flop all night a lot, so, I'm exhausted when I wake up. I sit up and it's dizzy and tachy. I sit on the edge of the bed until I can gather my composure. Stand up and feel very out of it, lightheaded and weird.
Gerrik1
Well I tried the drinking this morning brfore I got up. I drank 20 oz of fluids and when I got up I am so dizzy. Not sure if it's the fluids or because I didn't sleep well last night. Insomnia has set in again. Been uo for over 2 hours and still dizzy, not going to be a good day. Rachel Cox
Mornings are hard. I feel for my husband who has to carry the morning tasks because I am just physically unable for about two hours from waking. We have little children and he has taken the jobs on with true male efficiency (!) I have to bite my tongue about all the details I would prefer were done my way (healthier breakfasts/ kids doing their chores/ better effort on teeth and hair!) because I just can't rustle to do it my way. On the morning I have to work, we wake two hours earlier so that by the time I need to get up and dressed I am not going to be late. My lovely man brings me a cup of tea and I get vertical in stages. I make sure all my clothes are ready the night before and I sit down at intervals when I am doing my makeup. It is a torture of sorts, I am sure you can all relate! On a work day I don't eat anything so that my gastro symptoms don't flare, so I just load up with water for the three hours I am at work and fall apart when I get home! I used to be a morning person... when I was a kid I used to set my alarm for 5am so I could jump out of bed and see the sun rise! I loved that peaceful beauty of the dawn, it is a magic time of the day. I miss it very much. :-(
