AmberK Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I'm undiagnosed at the moment (please see http://forums.dinet.org/index.php?/topic/20104-18-years-undiagnosed/ ) but have noticed that all of you with profile pictures seem to be slim. I was slim when I first became ill, but a combination of inactivity and comfort eating has resulted in me being big now. I just wondered if it's usual for people with POTS to be slim? Is that a factor? I guess I'm trying to suss out the likelihood of this being POTS, and as I'm big whether this means it's less likely? Thanks. Quote
MomtoGiuliana Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I think there is a stereotypical POTS patient--young and slim and tall. But this certainly does not fit all of us. We are all shapes, sizes, heights and ages. If you check out the Changes video I mentioned in your other thread, you will see photos and video of a variety of patients. Quote
anna Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I am 5' 7" was a UK size 12/14 (US size 8/10 I think) until my late 30's early 40's then I suddenly put on tons of weight and can not shift it how ever hard I try!! So now Dr's tend to think that my issues are all weight related!! Quote
bellgirl Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I'm 5'5" at 104#...even on a Beta Blocker. I thought I would gain weight with medication, but not so:o) I have long arms, legs, fingers, and Mitral Valve Prolapse, so I probably have Marfans, which you are probably referring to.... There are so many types of dysautonomia, though, so some that have autoimmune issues, thyroid problems, MCAD, or EDS, may be different Remember that even the doctor's are having a hard time understanding all of this, too Quote
AmberK Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Thanks everyone, that definitely clears that question up! Quote
Chaos Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 There have been polls on this before on this site. If you do a search on this site you might get some answers as well. When I first was "incapacitated" by this, I lost about 20 pounds and was thinking I looked like a cancer patient with the way flesh was hanging off my bones. But then I started gaining and even with exercising, really watching what I eat and using every trick in the book that has worked for me before to maintain a healthy weight...it's not budging. Heavy Sigh!! Quote
