Lemons2lemonade Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 One of my friends was discussing using atropine on a patient in the hospital. While researching it I found.this: (not highly academic and could have overstated plant classifications but still an interesting concept nonetheless.) http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=62 Quote
jangle Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Atropine crosses the blood brain barrier so I would stay away from that. Quote
Lemons2lemonade Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 The patient was having severe heart problems and they were basically waiting for him to code. The effects of it are what I find interesting as far its ability to influence the nervous system/heart. Quote
ramakentesh Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 it basically completely blocks your parasympathetic system - since in POTs nearly all of us have parasympathetic withdrawal you can imagine the consequences. Quote
Katybug Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 I have a Belladonna Alk script for my GI flares that include severe abdominal pain and cramping. Usually when I have these attacks, I also have bad adrenaline surges (not surprising given the pain). The script is written for 1 pill every 8 hrs as needed. If I take 1 it usually lasts me for 24 hrs and ALL of my symptoms feel better. I don't feel high or sedated from it, just normal. It's actually the only one of my meds that makes me feel like a normal person. But, it is habit forming so I try to only take it when absolutely needed. Quote
Lemons2lemonade Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 Rama, exactly, which is why eating foods in this family could increase symptoms. Quote
ramakentesh Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Interesting possibility but Im addicted to tomatoes... Quote
Lemons2lemonade Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 Katy, interesting does it help just gi or also hr/lightheadedness? Quote
Katybug Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 It helps everything...I literally feel normal...completely normal. It's very tempting to take it more often, honestly. I just don't want to end up an addict. I don't know what it actually does to my HR because I feel so good when I take it, I've never stopped to check my HR. Quote
