firewatcher
Yes, it would indicate diabetes insipidus. Anecdotally, my Vandy doc said that many POTS patients show a "diabetes insipidus-like" condition. My ADH was measured at Vandy and shown to be non-existent, and I have been dxed with partial DI. firewatcher
There is a newer DI test involving copeptin along with water deprivation. It is a more accurate marker of ADH and is easier to measure. A European study has the cutoff values for DI, partial DI and psychogenic polydipsia. sue1234
Fire, are they now doing the new testing?
ramakentesh
Interesting. And yes - ive been told that by other docs as well. I wonder if I should get that tested as well. they did look into diabetes insipidus for me at one stage but I dont think they ever bothered testing it properly. All i know is I dropped 5 kg overnight before my last relapse (that is approx ten pounds with no explanation) and I felt almost normal after 1 litres of saline. So im certainly interested in this area.Stewart thinks hypovolumia has to do with ang II. Vandy are also checking that dopamine kidney angle. fun timesl... ramakentesh
And its a **** of a lot easier to explain to strangers when you have low blood volume than it is if you have something like norepinephrine transporter deficiency LOL
firewatcher
I don't know who is doing the new testing.
sue1234
Well, I'm heading to Mayo in about a week. I have already faxed all of my previous tests, and the ones with the low ADH are included. I'll be interested what the Mayo endo has to say about it. sue1234
Well, Rama, now you have me interested if others might have low ADH and what it's significance might be. Is it primary or secondary?
