avais1
Here I go again! Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, but have been battling a bit lately. I need to vent just a little . I told you all about my POTS attacks while laying flat and hitting me in the middle of the night on a different post. Now, let me "up the ante" . Now, not only do I still have these spells, I HAVE TO HOLD COMPLETELY STILL! Bizarre, I know. I woke up, and all I did was roll over, and my heart took off. my palms got sweaty, and I thought I was going to throw up (oh, the fun never ends ). The only thing that kept my heart at bay, and the nausea, was to hold completely still. As long as I didn't move, nothing happened. Then, my poor fiance, rolled over, and just the movement from him in the bed started the next wave. Do any of you get this, or am I just "weird"? This is going to be a real bummer if I have to sit motionless when this hits, how on earth am I going to fly in a plane next month? Anyway, thanks for lending an ear. Or should I say, an eye! ginger
Avais1--I've read several people here wake up out of sleep and have weird reactions, tachy, etc. Last night, I woke up thrashing me head violently---in my dream a big, fat, black hairy spider had fallen from the ceiling into my shirt collar, yikes!---and as I awoke my whole body shook/trembled all over harder than ever before. Heart racing, felt weird. So, I think we potsy folk aren't weird, we just have bodies that do weird things! Ginger

When I first started having POTS symptoms over the summer, they were exactly as you described in your post. It was horrible. After increasing my salt and fluid intake and taking licorice root, those types of symptoms subsided. I will still wake in the middle of the night with my heart racing, but usually from a nightmare and not from just turning over like I used to. I do still have to use a wheel chair to go the the bathroom if I wake up in the middle of the night, in order to avoid the tachycardia, but my symptoms are more under control now. Make sure you're getting enough fluids and salt. I hope you find some relief very soon!
Guest tearose
Hi avais, this sounds like the well understood " ERTANS".Merrill and others have well documented and explained this in other threads. You are not weird or alone. Unless another diagnosis is given to you by a credible doctor consider it your experience of ..... an "Emergency Response Test of your Autonomic Nervous System"it was only a test. In the event of an actual emergency you would have been directed to the emergency room of your nearest hospital! Actually, I really don't have a clue but you know the drill...are you doing anything different?are your hormones funky lately? are you on an antidepressant? have you changed any medications or do you need to reevaluate them? are you doing too much or too little? And if you can't get it to resolve in a week and you are not able to sleep well, time to go see the doctor!Maybe it is worth going to the doc just to learn if you can take something so you don't worry about your trip next month. It that for your wedding? I just remembered you are getting married soon. Even more reason to get checked out! You deserve a wonderful trip!feel better soon, best wishes, tearose
blackwolf
i got a stupid question- do you have a water bed? if you do that might by the cause of all your trouble. i had to ditch mine just after i got POTS.just an idea, blackwolf
dream02
I don't think you're weird at all! As with others our bodies just do with things. I am having trouble while laying down too, not so much with tach but with low BP which makes me feel bad enough that I don't sleep well at all. I hope you find help soon so that you can get a good nights sleep as it's so important to get rest in order to face another day!Denise
guvna2004
Im one of those who has big problems every day when i wake up. Sometimes i have bad bad stomach pains, everytime i have the TACHY going on, slow, fast, irregular beats, ive had this for 2 years, i just get on with it, if im scared i wake my girlfriend up and hug her, or i make a cup of coffee, which generally makes things worse but for the first 5 mins until i fall asleep it works. Just stick in there, stay strong, always keep your thoughs posative, a study im doing on POTS showed that 60 percent of POTS Sufferers all had negative thoughts more then they did posative, including myself. Im off to buy a book today anyway on POTS, just gotta look up a shop in Redditch (birmingham UK) that sells them. Stay posative, and i will pray for you.
