peregrine Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Earlier this week something really weird happened - I was walking from the kitchen to the living room with a big mug of tea in my hands. The mug was pretty full, so I was trying to be careful to avoid slopping tea over the side. Next thing I know the tea is all over my front, 3/4 of it is on the floor or on me, and I'm holding on to the handle with a fairly loose grip. I didn't drop the teacup, it's more like the muscle in my arm just gave suddenly or something. I had the same kind of spaciness during the incident that happens when you trip and fall suddenly - sort of the "wait, what just happened?" response. Any ideas as to what happened? Could it be linked to dysautonomia? The pharmacist mentioned microseizures with tiagabine, but I'm on such a low dose that I'm not sure that could be what happened. Quote
potsgirl Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Hi Peregrine,I think it could be related to dysautonomia, or your medication. I've also had some similar things happen to me when I've been trying to carry something like coffee/tea/anything that I am not fully grasping with my whole hand. If it keeps up, you might want to ask your doctor about it... Quote
GingerA Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I have this happen a lot. Especially if I'm having a bad POTS day. It's like your brain just forgets how to hold tight to something. Quote
Katybug Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I have this periodically...just as Ginger described...my hand just doesn't hold tightly enough to what ever it is. I find I usually have this issue with small things like a single sheet of paper or trying to grip a writing instrument. My hand doesn't open up (it would look to someone else like my hand is working just fine) but my grip is just weak enough to let the item fall out of my hand. It happens at random times with no pattern but when I could still work, my boss, who had worked with me for years, actually noticed it and that's when he really started to worry that there was something seriously wrong. He was so worried I was having strokes. The doctors have never been able to tell me what the issue really is. I have to assume it has something to do with dysautonomia or its underlying cause. Quote
mully2014 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I have this problem because of the weakness I get form the POTS. I can barely sit up on my own sometimes let alone hold something up. I noticed major weakness start a while ago when I tried to brush my teeth and my body was too weak to do it and I ended up dropping the toothbrush. It last for a few hours where a just had to lay there because my body wouldn't let me do much more than that. I don't normally have the weakness to the extreme of barely being able to hold myself up but it does daily to some degree.I hope you get it figured out. Quote
