Libby Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) Just complaining. Don't mind me. Yesterday, I had a bad reaction to all the rich holiday food. Fortunately it happened during the few hours break I had between seeing people, so I was able to puke in peace in my own toilet (silver lining haha). A shower and a nap and lots of toothpaste and I was able to drag myself up and finish out the day.And what do I do? I eat a couple of cookies for dinner because I managed to convince myself that fat-filled, buttery Christmas cookies could never, ever turn against me.Now it's 4am and my feet are burning (a huge POTS night symptom for me) and I'm sipping ginger ale trying to avoid a repeat performance of yesterday. Looks like I'll be back to the apple/applesauce diet for a while. Normal was fun while it lasted./vent. Eta: Ginger beer is AWESOME. Edited December 26, 2011 by Libby Quote
Dizzysillyak Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Lol, I just had to respond to this one. I do this kind of thing all the time. Before giving up all grains, I could hear cookies, cakes, pastries, etc calling my name and wooing me with promises of instant delight. Now, it's just potatoes that woo me and chocolate .. Lol .. I'm on to the chocolate tho. Tastes great but the caffeine keeps my adrenals in high gear for at least 24 hours. Hope you're feeling better. Tc .. D Quote
Serbo Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 been eating gluten free christmas cake/pudding, mince pies etc. No gluten symptoms but the sugar rushes aren't fun! Quote
Dizzysillyak Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Hi serbo, I was eating homemade gf goodies at my celiac support griup meetings once a month and loved thembut the sugars nailed me everytime. Have you had a gtt + insulin ? Mine showed hyperinsulinemia, excess insulin in response to sugars. There's a link between this and dyautonomia ... The article is probably on this site. This makes me feel horrible after eating sugars but I've never noticed any increase in my dysautonomia. Maybe the connection is only for diabetics. That who the study was done on. Enjoy your gf holiday. : ) .. D Quote
Katybug Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I overdid it at breakfast and (apparently I'm a slow learner ) overdid it again at dinner! It was a wonderful and an awful day all at the same time. I'm so careful not to overdo the food cause it makes me so sick but I just threw caution to the wind and ate what I wanted. You're right, Libby, it wa nice while it lasted. Quote
puppylove Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 What exactly are we supposed to eat? I don't eat greasy or over seasoned foods. But practically everything makes me feel sick to my stomach. All I ate was a roll and a banana yesterday for Christmas dinner and I felt sick. I feel better if I don't eat though. Quote
fiona-jane Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 i feel better when i dont eat, my tum often goes on strike (i have gastroparesis) and the longer i go without food the healthier i feel. a while ago i had a prolonged period without food (more than 4 days) and i felt great- no nausea, no tum pains, no reflux.... but unfortunately my PoTS symptoms eventually flare up and get super bad so instead of fasting i do a liquidsed diet for a few days while i let stuff settle and then go back onto solids.i overdid it on friday evening, even though i didnt really eat that much solid food but that was a horrid evening. body rejected it and got rid of all of it, even what had entered my intestins. was a rather challenging evening but luckily it;s not been quite so bad since (the pain and bloating is all there but not the actual rejection). and i dont know if my symptoms with sugars are similar but i find they make me super thirsty and kinda shakey and my sugar crash seems to be more pronounced and occurs faster than in my friends who dont have dysautonomia. but my reactions to artificial sweetener are even worse (along the same lines as my sugar symptoms, just much worse.fi xx Quote
icesktr189 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I too have gastroparesis and I am also hypoglycemic so I have to force myself to eat. it stinks... I am either super low on sugar or dizzy and nauseaous from eating. I just cant win. Quote
