JWPotsMom
We have a clue how bad POTS will be at night by how dark the circles are under my son's eyes. It's not 100%, but it is definitely linked.Anyone else have these? Anyone know what's going on?Thanks!
puppylove
When I get a flare up I get really dark circles. Its not really before it happens though its during.
kmichaelson
Wow, that's interesting that you posted this because I was going to ask the same question! I've always kind of had dark circles, but they get ridiculous when I'm feeling really bad. It looks like I have two black eyes sometimes! I wonder if this has to do with blood flow at all or if it's just a product of how tired I get?
JWPotsMom
I can say pretty confidently that it is not related to my son's exhaustion . . .
potsgirl
Yes, I have almost always had dark circles under my eyes since I got sick. Now, does anyone know how to get rid of them?
ramakentesh
yeah i definately get this as well. My doc said it was something to do with POTS but I cant remember the exact mechanism he suggested.Someone once told me that people in Asia wipe coffee under their eyes to get rid of dark circles ebcause it constricts the veins/arteries or what ever it is that contributes to this symptom. JWPotsMom
I was interested to know what the mechanism is--how it relates to POTS . . . too much blood? too little blood? ???
ramakentesh
i think it had to do with plasma leakage or abnormal vasodilation of small capillories. I notice that if I lean forward when its like that my head totally fills with blood like a balloon.
Dizzysillyak
Allergies are a common cause of this. I get this exclusively from dairy. No dairy = no dark circles. It's interesting how different allergies affect us. Soy milk causes phlegm in my throat immediately whereas soy in a supplement will cause me to cough up phlegm. I've noticed this consistently for4 years now. I can't sleep at night if I've come into direct contact with dust. I HAVE to take a hot shower and wash my hair to get it off of me. I just feel like I can't breath .. I got a huge welt on my back when tested for this.Tc .. D
rubytuesday
Allergies, sinus problems, gravity if side/stomach sleeper, rubbing tender skin not delicatly enough when washing and even genetics can also cause the dark circles. I've had them life-long and even asked on multiple occasions (seriously) who hit me. Seems to run on DFs side and being very fair skined does not help. The skin around eyes and mouth is thinnest on the face and thus the vasculature is more visible. (I'd tried Vitamin K and other proclaimed natural remedies but nothing worked shy of just camoflauging them. Looking back since you mentioned it, they do always seem to appear much darker when I'm feeling bad. Don't have bags--just dark circles. Katybug
I get this too. My mom (and I'm 37) will look at me and say, "You aren't feeling good are you?" I'll tell her I don't feel too bad. And it never fails...an hour or two later I'll be in a flare.
nunntrio
Add me to the list, my husband can 95% of the time tell how bad I am feeling based on how dark line under my eyes are.
ramakentesh
an interesting observation here because it also works without fail for me. And my computer use can give me them.
Tzipora
How interesting to see this post. I was literally googling dark circles under eyes yesterday because I saw how awful my eyes looked! (and was having a very bad day- painful period because I have an ovarian cyst, migraine, low bp, etc... didn't even get out of bed all day) I've never really gotten under eye bags ever before until more recently. And I've been highly symptomatic with POTS for about a year now (may have started before then since I ahd a sinus tachycardia diagnosis a few years earlier) but for sure as my POTS has gotten worse these bags have appeared. And I look like I've been punched in the face!
