For a while I was able to limit any reactions by only eating certain things and I am finding that is not working any more.

My reaction right now is itching under the skin.

I have no visible rash just the itch that can turn into a burning.

I'm starting to wonder if it is more the mast cells or a histamine issue than a true allergy?

This is really scary stuff.

I already lost tons of weight once because I was scared to death to eat because of the reactions that were occurring,

I am not willing to starve myself.

I'll eat and risk having a reaction rather than starve.

I'm wondering now if I do need to be on antihistamines to control this reaction.

My allergist had ordered Periactin for me and I guess I'm gonna have to try it.

I don't feel I have any other choice.

I seem to be reacting to all plants.

Rice and now wheat???

I have to be able to eat something.

I agree with you. It doesn't matter what I eat I seem to have some type negative reaction. I try to choose the things that I react to the least. It does get boring eating the same bland foods all the time but at least you won't starve.

Thanks Alicia!

I picked up the periactin and I'll have to give it a try.

I'll start with a tiny amount as usual and just hope it helps.

It's comforting to know that you are dealing with the same thing and managing.

I drink water and I get a numb mouth...and I'm not joking. Food is very hard for me. The antihistamines help a lot. I wish I could convince you to try them. They help me sooooo much.

Okay well I took a tiny bit of the periactin.

My lungs feel nice and open.

I do feel a bit sedated even with that tiny amount-not sleepy-wide awake and drugged.

A little bit uncomfy for me since I prefer to be totally alert.

I also have a cold so this is not a fair evaluation of the medication.

My vital signs are great 108/70 and 95.

I don't feel my heart racing or palps.

No adverse effect at all taking it so far.

I feel a bit of tightness in my neck chest but it's very easy to breathe.

That tight feeling may just be a sensation or this cold.

I see it blocks histamine....and I also see it blocks serotonin.

This is curious to me since some of us are encouraged to take more serotonin?

I'm not sure the rational for that but I know one of the concerns my doctor had was that some of my reactions after eating could be related to carcenoid syndrome. With that excesses of serotonin do cause adrenaline surge type effects.

So big ???

So it was a tiny dose I'm sure in time this will wear off and then I'll have the option to decide whether I want to take more or not.

It's very much like taking a cold tablet that makes you a little woozy. : )

this reminded me of something... just like environmental issues can be histamine mediated, food allergies can be seratonin mediated. i dont recall specifics, but ill see if i can find anything. info from an old environmental doc i used to work with.
