Can We Convert The Type Of Pots We Are?

So I have never been diagnosed with "hyper POTS" but that is clearly the type I have with my BP getting high upon rising. However, sometimes I notice that my BP will be higher sitting than standing. This is random and I haven't noticed a pattern. I was just wondering if anyone has ever started with one type and ended up in another. I feel assured that if my BP dropped low like hypo-POTS I would not be able to hold a job. I feel the only reason I function as well as I do is b/c I go high and not low to the point of passing out. What do ya'll think? Does anyone switch from one to another?

I know I can't function do to the sever surges with the hyper pots, I'm so glad you are able. I don't know if we can change the pots type but I know my BP has gotten worse, on the last ttt it went to 200/110 and the first (6 month ago) it was 168/80

I am not sure how long I have had pots but was dx'd in Feb this year. I do know that I have had low blood pressure for a long time and I have been aware of my heart rate rising on standing for over 2 years easily and it was getting worse over time.

I have been taking my BP readings since about Jan this year and my BP used to drop on standing and I would get very dizzy. I have noticed over the past two months, especially in the morning, that my BP goes high when I stand but mainly diastolic, this morning I went from 90/71 69HR to 149/125 126HR on standing. I have also noticed that with the higher BP my heart rate is not as fast on standing which I think is odd (like last night on standing my HR went from 78 to 100 which is very good for me), but I also feel headachy, can hear my blood whooshing in the back of my head, feel shaky.

I am not sure why the change. Every time I stand and take my BP in the past, my heart rate has ALWAYS shot right up and gets higher and higher, but lately my BP is getting higher my HR is lower and a couple of times it has only risen by 15/20 rather than the usual 50/60 straight away - it does raise but takes longer to raise lately too whereas before it would shoot up as soon as I stood - wow there must be something wrong with me rofl!! Not sure what is going on here :)

Hi tinks!

I can completely relate!!! I know what you mean regarding the heart rate too. For instance, this morning I stood up and my BP went up but my HR was 69  But I've noticed that sometimes I'll be 100/60-70 while lying; 135/100-99 sitting; 110/60-69 standing. Obviously these change the longer I stay in a position and there are times when I'm right on with HyperPOTS & my BP will be 150/120 while standing. All I can say is our bodies are wicked-crazy!

  • 2 months later...

I was in the class of 'neurocardiogenic syncope for a little over 2 years, then diagnosed as POTS. The BP would bottom out with standing, bending, stooping, reaching above heart level, lifting, etc. and I began having more and more near syncope and true syncope. By the time the cardiologist got me in to cardiac specialist in dysautonomia, he tells me that I have orthostatic hypotension, that my autonomic nervous system is failing (when hypotensive, instead of the typical tachycardia, the HR usually hangs in low 60s now). He explained that I would have less warning of faints and that could anticipate a pacemaker in future. I have EDS that is an added compromise in the blood pooling in my feet and legs. Some days, however, the least thing I do may make the BP a little high but I am on 2 Rxs to try to get me hypertensive. The fluid/blood pooling/retention makes the BP higher, too, yet when I take the Rx for fluid retention, I'm back to the hypotension problems again. We've tried a lot of different/higher doses of other meds but for some reason, Bumex is the only one strong enough to move the fluid and if I skip a couple of days, it takes 2 days on Bumex to get the fluid off. It's a viscious cycle.
