issie
http://celiacfacts.wordpress.com/2010/11/30/progressive-myoclonic-ataxia-associated-with-celiac-disease/this looks like what happened ... I knew about the myoclonus and ataxia being from gluten but didn't realize this part ... bummer ...this explains why I'm running into things again too ... my ataxia is back ... I thought it was the Klonopin ...So, do you have celiac disease? I didn't realize that glutton intolerance could cause seizures and ataxia. I did not test positive for celiac, but I'm trying to eliminate glutten anyway and finding that it is making a difference with my POTS symptoms. I also have ataxia problems and tremors. I'll pay attention and see if when I mess up on the diet if those things get worse. But, according to this article - if the immune system is involved whether or not you adhere strictly to the glutten free diet - your body could stay in the "attack" mode anyway. Like your immune system gets turned on by the glutten intolerance and even though you are not ingesting glutten, it stays turned on "attack" anyway. That's what I got from this. I don't like this idea at all. But, it makes you wonder if that's what's going on.Klonopin can cause those things too. One of my family members had these results on Klonopin. So, might not hurt to eliminate that too. In fact, this family member - fell and broke her hip while on this med. We're not for absolute sure that this is what caused her dizziness - but it is a possiblity.
Dizzysillyak
Allergy meds will cause me to have seizure. I'm not sure but I think seizures may be a side effect of most antihistamines. I've had the feeling of not being able to breathe & gasping for breath but I thought that was a symptom of Dysautonomia.HI Alicia,I think I posted some links here for how antihistamines could cause seizure but if not googling will find them .. My computer bit the dust so I lost the links I had. I'm not sure if gasping for air is a symptom of dysautonomia but it's a reasonable assumption since breathing isn't something we have to think about. tc ... dizzy

Despite what Dr. H says here, I've had some luck with lessening my myoclonus by going on the Paleo diet. It could be that the problem with those who aren't making progress with their myoclonus aren't really gluten free. Those GF foods are notoriously cross contaminated ... there aren't any standards in the US at this point ... Myoclonus and insomnia are the symptoms that return for me if I get any gluten whatsoever ...Theanine and 5HTP reverse these symptoms everytime now too ... Hope the GF diet continues to help you but if not try going on the Paleo diet. Also, Dr. H may not be trying to help his patients heal their brains in other ways ... like with fish oil, healthy diets, brain foods, etc etc ... there was a time when doctors didn't beleive the brain could heal itself ...thanks for the warning on Klonopin. I've been weaning myself off of it slowly ... wish me luck ... tc ... dizzy
Dizzysillyak
http://www.wemove.org/myo/myo_ec.htmlHere's a good explanation of what was going on with me. I'm not sure how common myoclonus and dysautonomia are but I've seen myoclonus linked to CFS before. Check out the possible reasons given for myoclonus in this article ... hypoxia, glycogen storage disease, or mitochondria problems ... the plot thickens ... Not that I know what this all means but I feel better knowing that what I had was just another form of myoclonus. I backed off the Klonopin yesterday and so far so good. I'm a little nervous but that's unavoidable ... I'm surprised that more of you don't have myoclonus or some other type of seizure ... tc ... dizzy
