Called Dr. Grubb's Office To Make An Appointment Today~

Recommended Posts

In anticipation of the possibility of not getting good relief for my daughter, I thought I might as well call and make an appointment. We can always cancel if things are going really well. I'd LOVE to be able to say she is doing so well, no need to bother Dr. Grubb! I was SO close to doing it 2 years ago and then things started to improve.

I expected it to be a ways out for an appointment, but what I didn't expect is that I need her records sent to them BEFORE she can even get an appointment. Also, you are apparently required to pay for the visit up front and then IF your insurance will cover it, they will reimburse you. I would pay for it and go hungry if need to, but I also am pretty sure our insurance will cover it. That is always a bonus!

This has probably been covered before on the board, but I just thought I'd share.

Thanks, you all are a wonderful help to us!

I didn't have to pay up front when I went. However Dr. Grubb is an in network provider on my health insurance plan, so that may be why. So check and see if he is in network first. Yes, I did need to send all my records first, But ended up getting an appointment much sooner then I expected once they had them. Also they didn't do any additional testing while I was there. I'd had most things done already, he asked my local doc to do one more test. He did however make an accurate diagnosis and gave me a new treatment plan.

His wife has brain cancer, so this may be effecting his availability right now.

The lady (who was less than delightful) on the phone said that payment was required up front and if insurance covered it they would reimburse you. I asked about our network and she just stated I would have to call MY insurance and ask them, that he participates in too many networks (translation: I am too lazy to look for you or help you). I looked online, and he IS in network, but she was very clear that it didn't seem to matter, payment was still required up front. Not sure if you push it if they would just bill insurance or not, but I wasn't going to go there with her.

How do you know when they get the records? Do you just have to call back?

How long ago was it you went?

I thought that his wife passed away? I'd love to be wrong on that.

thank you to whoever said Dr Grubb is in your network, I didn't think to check that and have only checked out the major clinics under my health plan - he's in my network and my ded is paid for the year so maybe I can get an appt also

I've been waiting over a year now, records have been sent long ago and haven't heard a word. Hope you have better luck!

Have you called them to make sure they have your records and haven't forgotten about you? I think I might push the issue. A year is a long time!

I called to confirm they had received my records a long time ago. They would call me when they could book an appointment. Maybe if I was more persistant I would get a bit further. I'm kind of torn right now though as to going. I have a good diagnosis (right diagnosis is a better word) I'm confident in. I could use some help with treatment options and med adjusting but recent posts have kind of indicated that's not one of their strong points right now. Taking care of me falls well below caring for my 4 babes right now and it's hard to justify the expense and inconvenience. I had a EP cardiologist who was able to consult with Doctor Grubb via phone but her retired last January and left me hanging. I think maybe they had studied together at some point. It's such a tough decision to make. I have also had the frustrating experience in traveling and wasting time seeing a neurology specialist and coming out with no answers and a bunch of medical bills. I know many can relate. Probably too much info for this post but I sure hope you get an appointment soon and get some much needed help.

Keep us posted. If you are able to get in please share your experience whether you found it helpful. I'm trying to decide at this point whether to pursue this option or not anyway. I think maybe my paperwork was lost in the shuffle and perhaps that's some kind of sign anyway.

Good luck!!

I called back today to ask a couple questions. Got a MUCH more pleasant lady this time. Maybe it was just a bad Monday, I don't know. Anyway, they said that they only have their schedule one month out and it may be 6 months to a year for an appointment. They are now just seeing patients that had their records sent about a year ago. YIKES!! Guess I should have made that appointment 2 years ago! Also, if your phone number isn't on the records, they have no way to reach you. I will call back later next week and see if they got them and make sure they have our contact information and then wait for THEM to call US for an appointment I guess.

just to clarify, dr. grubb's wife has NOT died. she does have a very rough cancer diagnosis but is still fighting. and while his wife's health has/ does/ will continue to affect his schedule, in reality the current proposed waiting time has been similar for years....long before she was ill.

and yes, if you truly want an appt, persistence is the way to go re: calling the office. they get non-stop calls from around the world - literally - and obviously no one cares as much as you so anyone wanting an appointment should not wait for them to call you (provided of course that you've met all requirements re: records, etc.)

good luck!

Oh, good, glad to hear it!!! I just thought it was on here that I had heard that she had, sorry for the misunderstanding. I am happy to be wrong!!

I called a couple weeks ago and they did receive my daughter's records, but NO contact information. Nothing. They said they were glad I called. My daughter has an appointment with another POTS dr, so hopefully that will at least get us somewhere in the meantime. Time will tell! And, I have thought about calling and asking where we are on the list thinking maybe they would get tired of hearing from me and offer an appointment sooner rather than later.

Ditto to Sunfish! I waited more than 6 mos for my first appointment in 2001.
