Nikki
This might be an odd question, but whenever I sneeze (and usually it's a few times in a row) I always get really lightheaded. Same thing with laughing. If I laugh a bunch I just feel a little woozy for a few minutes! Anyone else get this way?
flop
Yep - me too!It is because the pressure changes in your chest and neck during sneezing, coughing and laughing. The change in pressure has the same effect as doing a valsalva manouver. The changes in pressure also reduce the amount of blood that can flow back to the heart (reduced cardiac return) so the heart then doesn't have as much blood to pump out again, leading to lowered blood pressure and feeling dizzy. The pressure changes can also trigger the vagus nerve to tell the heart to slow down.Flop
delphicdragon
Add me to the list! I always figured it was the force of the sneeze that caused the odd feelings. I'm a very loud sneezer. Repeated sneezing is the worst. I think it's related to the valsava maneuver too. I failed that part of autonomic testing.Sara
MomtoGiuliana
Yes, sneezing repetitively sets off a high heart rate for me...
gertie
That happens to me sometimes & it's also happened when I blow my nose.

ChiariMSwithPOTS
What the heck? We can't laugh now? Is there any tricks to this? Any medications that work for it? This is ridiculous. I haven't had POTS in YEARS and now it's back full force. Can anxiety be the sole cause for POTS?
potsgirl
Flop, great answer! I also get dizzy after sneezing, especially after I do it a couple of times in a row - darn allergies! Sometimes I get it when I hiccup, too. And when I say hiccup, these puppies come out of the blue, are loud and make my whole body jump. Any other hiccupers? (Is that even a word?)
