It feels like tiny bits food and water go down my windpipe instead and get on my lungs 3. I feel like my pipes are double jointed and click in and out of joint.I've heard that this could be an EDS thing - does anyone else have it? It scares me that this can suddenly happen. When I'm relatively well, swallowing is an automatic reflex. When I'm poorly, I have to really T-H-I-N-K about it to swallow. It is difficult. My throat feels tight. It's like my body forgot how to do it, so I have to purposely take over a function that used to be automatic. For me, this is much worse when I'm on beta blockers. They exacerbate my MCAD. Also, I do have problems with acid (not food) in my windpipe and lungs when my GERD is not well controlled. If you are getting food in your lungs....that's bad (so is acid- OUCH!) When I wake up in the morning I feel like I've got a layer of acid on my lungs and when I drink a glass of water, I always feel like a few drops go down my windpipe. I just emailed my dysautonomia specialist about this and he sent me an email straight back (now that's good service!) and said it was a "very interesting symptom" and that he needed to consult with his colleagues about what should be done. jagpots13 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Share Posted September 20, 2009 I have had the same thing start recently. I sit there needing to swallow and I can't.. It almost makes me panic!
