Nauthiz Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 I worked out my arms real hard yesterday and they are super sore, but another thing i noticed is they feel itchy all over too. Is this something from pots? Quote
erik Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Hard to say. I don't know of a good explanation for it. I happened to have a generalized itchy phase for a while (which I attributed to fludrocortisone) that was followed by a pealing almost everywhere phase but it was progressive over a week or two and not tied to a particular exercised area.I think a pins-and-needles and/or flushing kind of sensation would be more typical than itchy, but they could be similar... like a nerve thing? Not sure. The soreness sounds totally appropriate, but itchiness right in the same area is intriguing. Does it happen elsewhere, like in the legs at all? Does it come and go quickly or is it more like a rash thing? Just curious... I don't know what it is or if it can tie in with POTS. Quote
potsgirl Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 I don't think so....I've worked out consistently most of my life, and before POTS (BP), if I really worked out hard my legs or arms would get itchy, too.Best,Jana Quote
tinkerbella Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 it's most likely yeast infection in your armpits. there is a nystatin power for it you need a script for it, from all the sweating.Yeast grows in warm places lke the arm pits. Yeast spreads also. i'm allergic to deoderant and have to buy all natural crystal in the pump spray form and buy all natural shampoo's and soaps without all the bad chemicals.good luck, because it drives you crazy, especially at night. erik Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 There is this angle if one wants to get speculative:Hyperadrenergic Postural Tachycardia Syndrome in Mast Cell Activation Disorders...which may/not describe your symptoms? It suggests a plausible explanation of some stuff. I don't know if mast cells hit everywhere or in zones (or if nerve branches could be involved like with a shingles infection)... or if "families" of activated receptors could explain regions. It all gets more than a little complicated!Or perhaps the normal extra blood flow to heal the muscles after the workout could be involved (localized vasodilation via alpha or beta receptors or nitrous oxide or whatever is going on naturally). Perhaps a normal response exciting something else like latent allergic potential or "histaminic sensitivity" or semi-dormant skin infection as was mentioned. Or if there were a mitochondrial level dysfunction... there could be difficulty expelling aggravating byproducts of the exercise... but those make generalized symptoms of extreme fatigue post workout... not sure about itchiness.(Just throwing out loose ideas in case anything "sticks"... the Al Dente school of brainstorming Quote
ana_22 Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 my stomach itches after eating sometimes Quote
Lizzegrl Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I actually came here to post a question about itching! I have had several med changes recently, mostly cardiac and have been put back on high dose steroids. Yesterday, the itching started! Ugggg My hands, my feet, my skin - everything itches. I've had it before, but I don't quite remember it being so bad. I took a benadryl s I could sleep, but it is drving me nuts. I don't have hives, or any frank bumps, etc. Just ITCHING!!! Anybody else deal with this when on steroids? Next thing, my hands will start peeling and feel raw. I hate it, but I have to breathe. Quote
ramakentesh Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Actually I read somewhere that blood pooling can cause itching - could be wrong though. Quote
Lizzegrl Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Ram, good thought, yet I've never had a big problem with pooling - but then I've also started retaining fluid for the first time, so things could be changing. It only comes in spells and usually only when I'm on higher than 40 mg. per day of prednisone. I'll have to keep an eye out and see if I get pooling at the same time. hmm Quote
Renata Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Haven't really got anything useful to add, other than that I get itching too. Fascinated to hear that others do, I thought it was just me! Quote
daisy Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I recently was diagnosed with dermographism due to overactive mast cells releasing too much histimine. It is believed I have the hyperadregenic form of POTS so there may be something to this connection. Mast Cells control the release of histimine and this whole process is controlled by the autonomic nervous system so it doesn't surprise me that so many of us experience itching. The dermographism causes hives from touch....too much histimine being released. It drove me crazy - I itched all over no matter how slight the touch. The auto-immune Dr. I saw had actually heard of POTS and the mast cell connection which was a pleasant surprise. I am now on Zyrtec once a day and it is controlling the itch.....the Dr. said I could try to wean off of it but for now since it's working I'm leaving well enough alone! Quote
Lizzegrl Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I take zyrtec every day and benadryl at night too when the itching gets crazy! If I tried to stop the zyrtec I don't think it would be possible. I would scratch my skin off. Quote
Kyler Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 My 12 yr old son has POTS (recently classified as hyperadrenergic) and he complains of his legs itching and tingling when he stands still for too long and his hands and arms also if he hangs them by his side. His cardio doc says that this is from the blood pooling - apparently everyone feels it differently. It makes sense that you might feel this because after a workout your muscles are engourged with blood in order to regenerate and heal and that perhaps because of your POTS the blood may have a hard time getting back into circulation. ramakentesh Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I got itchy at night randomly for years before I came down with POTS and Ankylosing Spondylitis. No idea why and my histamine results were considered normal despite my obvious hyperadrenergic presentation. Quote
tinkerbella Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 shades of gray, I hear you loud ad clear....LOL! It's not funny at all but one thing they gave me, my daughter told me smells like a funeral home.... I don't wear it around her and her family as they call it my funeral cream and gag!!!! It is a Funny thing as I liked the smell...I think I have lost a lot of my sense of smelling things. We must keep laughing over these things, or I'd at least go crazy!Be well,BellaMia~ Quote
