bellajulz
has anyone taken propranolol for pots because vanderbilt just gave me this drug and i was wondering has it helped anyone with their pots.I take it at 20mg three times a day, I started it twice a day and after a week doc said to go to three... it seems to have helped me but I also take Midodrine (50 mg day) which for me the combo seems to do well in helping me perform mild tasks. I had tried the beta blocker alone which did not keep me from fainting.

Sophia3
I have taken 10 mg but ONLY as needed...it kills my appetite and can add to my pre existing decades of insomnia, and some other side effects I could do without (makes hands and feet cold in winter and I have THAT issue already)..thus the tiny dose. You should know quite soon. This is the type of med given to singers with stage fright so it has to work right away. How much it helps with your HR depends on numerous other stuff. And what dose is correct FOR YOU.good luck
cvincent
I took propanolol for a couple months. Worked a little at first but I had to keep increasing the dose. Ended up not helping at all after a month or so. I switched back to Zebeta ( bisoprolol ) after my insurance changed and it works great. lotsicker
I am still being diagnosised but, I started with 10mg twice a day. It hasn't been enough so I currently take 10mg 4 X a day as needed. I can say there is a definate difference but, I still can't preform regular tasks without feeling like my Heart will explode. sirfalas
I have been taking 60 mg once a day for about six months. I knew that it was helping somewhat by keeping my heart rate lower and not pounding as hard, but then I ran out for a couple days, and those days were AWFUL. I couldn't stand more than a couple minutes without getting chest pain and feeling lightheaded. Now I make sure I don't run out. So yeah, it definitely helps me a lot, and I have had no side effects whatsoever.
valliali
for me, at 10mg 3-4 times a day, propranolol has given me my life back. i went from not functioning to really functioning. in the matter of hours after taking propranolol. now, i work and take classes. the day before i started taking propranolol about five months ago, i couldn't have imagined being able to do these things. i actually just got a gym membership again too, and so far so good! the difference between me on propranolol and off propanolol is DRAMATIC to say the least. i had been on metropolol for a year, with some relief of the constant tachycardia and psvts, but still not enough symptom relief that i was functioning well at all. thank god i requested a switch-over to propanolol. i will take this drug the rest of my life if i have to. shannon
Yes, I take it for migraines, but I am also on Mestinon which helps to offset the Propranonal's side effect of decreasing BP. I started at 10 mg 3 times per day, and then moved up to 80 each morning. I tried 120, but could not tolerate it (my BP dropped to 52/25 !!). As far as POTS, it is not a good med for me, but everyone's different. It does, however help my migraines some. Best of luck! You are working with a good doc
bellajulz
For me I try to give each new medicine at least a full week to determine whether or not its effective or not... I can usually feel the difference, but everyone is different. Good luck![i take it at 20mg one time a day per vanderbilts instructions and i was wondering how long do you have to take it to know if it is going to help or not.
