hyperpigmentation anyone?

Recommended Posts

The hair topic got me thinking. My hair was curly but it has gone flat. Also since I have been ill, I have developed hyperpigmentation on my face and my neck always looks sunburned. Does anyone else have this? I always look tan, but I don't get much sun.

Hi Dawn,

I don't have dysautonomia, but I do have hyperpigmentation. I've heard most women get this due to changing hormones, sometimes it's due to overexposure to the sun in previous years. Myself, I'm in my early forties, a Texas girl, (think iodine & baby oil sizzling on the beach), my face is darker than the rest of my skin, like I put on foundation and didn't blend, yuck. You can get some bleaching creams, prescription from a dermatologist if you have a mild case, the creams haven't worked for me. Thursday, I'm going in for the heavy artillary with a laser treatment, see if that works...

Interesting about the hair...My hair used to be stick straight, then started to grow in super curly from the back and underneath, that was 5 years ago. If I don't blow dry I now have lots of curl, so I just got my hair cut into layers I can wear it either straight or curly. Once again, it's the hormones talking.

I've had mild hyperpigmentation on my face and forearms since college, but was only recently dx'd with POTS. I know a lot of women with hyperpigmentation who are perfectly healthy otherwise. I just thank God for make up and skin lightening creams! :P

No hyperpigmentation that I haven't earned, either by pregnancy (and they said it would fade!) or overexposure to the sun & wind.

My 75 year old mom was bemoaning the few age spots on her arms she has the other day. I pointed out a couple dooseys I have at 43 - especially the two on my left cheekbone - and said "I know what you mean...like these here...but, oh, I had me a GOOD TIME!"

Facial "masking" can be symptoms of other things though. Good luck.

I have the opposite problem ... I have an inability to gain any color, even after sun exposure. I am so pale and can't figure out why. My iron level is normal, CBC mostly normal (slightly low potassium). I agree that this must be a hormonal issue.
