Anyone else have episodic pain/burning sensations in the lining of their mouth? I've had very brief episodes in the past, but it seems to be happening daily now and I can't seem to find a trigger or treatment. It feels like my mouth is on fire, or like there are a thousand canker sores all over the inside of my cheeks, roof of my mouth and on my tongue. It does tend to occur after eating more often than not ... but doesn't seem to have any correlation as to "what" I have eaten.

Sipping hot water can sometimes help ... as does sipping something cold like aloe vera juice. Either way the pain can stay anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour.

I already have a long list of items to review with my Doctor this month ... I feel like a google-chondriac adding another to the mix!

I am so glad someone posted about this! I have a constant burning mouth that appeared the same time as the burning in my skin. I also have a strange metallic taste at times. The burning goes all the way down my throat and I've described it to my doc as feeling like I just drank a scalding cup of coffee all the time. They are all perplexed, and don't know what to do with me... of course.

There's been a lot of posts lately about Mast cell disorders, and I've been doing some experiments seeing how I feel after taking antihistamines. Benadryl is the most effective medicine I've tried that reduces my skin/mouth burning, especially if I take it right after getting stressed or experiencing any other "trigger." It doesn't provide a lot of relief for my orthostatic hypertension and other symptoms.

This is my first post and I want to say "hi" and thanks to all of you who share your experiences and wisdom with dysautonomia!

Interesting post for me to see today.

I would not say I have burning sensation but am always cotten-mouthed. HOWEVER, the last few days I have been extremely dry and thirsty but feeling PUNY. Yesterday, from coffee to stuff we ate for dinner, all tasted "OFF". It was then I realized my sense of taste was way off...and my sense of smell there but not as pronounced....last night I was very queasy and drinking Gingerale, it tasted 'sweet' but after I swallowed it, tasted like mustard to me. Ugh.

I have a slight burning sensation I guess and today had my room mate get me a bottle of saline nose spray. I have no symptoms of cold or sinus stuff but figured with the dry air this time of year, perhaps this was adding to the smell thing.

THEN oddly enough I have had a mild upset stomach or bathroom frequency (NOT diarrhea though) on top of this odd mouth stuff, sense of smell deal. Last night I had a low grade fever but this afternoon, TYPICAL extra low temp...97...sigh.

I also noticed the other night an odd smell and just today realized, it was coming from my "off sense of smell'. As a kid I had a bad flu once and TOTALLY lost sense of smell and taste for days. Frightening...anyway..didn't mean to get off on my stuff Earth mother but yea, i have something more annoying than usual going on in my mouth....and as I lie here typing, yes it is like a subtle mouth burning sensation...It's like if you ate something that annoyed your tongue, only in the whole mouth. Like PH balance is off.

Oh deja vu!

When I had my crash last November, the same thing happened to me. Everything tasted funny! It all had this crazy aftertaste, especially sweet things. I was so nauseated that I couldn't eat and I had alternating bowel issues. I ran a fever every night too...weird.

EarthMother, I am sorry you are dealing with this.

The only memory I have of a similar burning was when I felt like I was fighting a virus. I remember drinking a lot and still feeling the sensation. I think your sensory system is very sensitive right now and the best thing you can do you are already doing. Stay hydrated, avoid possible allergens, suspect new allergens, keep a soothing drop of some liquid like a cough drop or honey around to try too.

I like the image of a google-chondriac! No such thing however. You are simply taking back your life and trying to educate yourself. Just don't let yourself be swept up with worry and you will be okay. Let all that new information empower you to ask well developed questions that will let your doctor help you live better.

Best regards,

That one is being printed out and going up on my mirror for when I need to be reminded .... I AM THAT. Deep bow of thanks Tearose.

And I think you are on to something about the virus link ... I came down with a cold sore (herpes simplex virus) on my lip this week. Could well be my body is fighting a systemic infection.

Good thing my body knows what to do even when my mind doesn't!

I'm not sure exactly what you are experiencing but I have trouble with my gums and mouth for years.

My gums were burning and falling apart. Here is what has helped me. I was on a steroid rinse for my gums for a while.

I have a no sugar and no caffeine diet. I can't use alcohol mouthwash. I use Biotene toothpaste fresh mint original. I highly recommend this for anybody that has mouth trouble. It doesn't use harsh chemicals to clean your teeth it uses an enzyme. I floss everyday with Glide original not mint. Every once in a while I'll eat something that burns my gums and I can't always figure out the cause. I usually get a headache also.

I hope this will help somebody. I kept going to the dentist over and over again until he sent me to someone who could help

I also see the dentist twice a year for cleanings.

Hi,

I don't think I have had the burning... I have had pain, irritation from canker sores etc, and an itchy tongue! An itchy tongue is very annoying and sometimes it feels swollen... normally I guess it is an allergic reaction.
