jbrian00
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed an increase in heart rate right after coughing, choking or sneezing. I don't know if it is a normal response or not. Just something I've noticed.

ajw4790
Hi,I believe that this is a normal response to the ValSalva manuever that occurs with a cough or a sneeze. It could be possible that it may be overexaggerated in some people due to BP/HR abnormalities already seen with dysautonomia. Here is a link- it is wikipedia, so take it for what it is worth because anyone can post/change things, but I only wanted to do quick research.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsalva_maneuverIt describes post valsalva and increase in HR that then returns to normal. It also suggests that with Mitral Valve Prolapse etc. that the response can be increased. But, overall it is your body's response to this action, and isn't (as far as I know) considered dangerous. As long as things return to your "normal" after the sneeze etc.Hope that helps!
jump
Sometimes being really bradycardic will cause me to cough. Maybe this is my body's way of trying to speed things up!!
