summer
I have recently seen and been diagnosed by an ANS specialist who lives a day's drive away. Just wondering what kind of doctor manages your treatment day to day and how often they see you in follow-up. I'm not sure what specialty POTS would fall under seeing as it seems to overlap between neuro, cardio, and internal medicine. Now that I'm diagnosed, I'm not sure who should manage my care. Rachel
I see my pcp most often. She manages my meds, documents the changes in my health, does referrals, etc. Once every 6 months or a year I see my specialists (cardiologist, neurologist, sleep specialist, and another cardiologist). I always make sure that my pcp knows what is going on with the specialists, and I make sure that she gets my medical records. It is good to have a doctor who is willing to take in the whole picture and keep track of everything. An internal medicine doctor is another good option for your regular doctor. I used to have an internist for my regular POTS doc, and he was great. I hope you find the doctor best suited for you.Rachel
belayergirl
I see my electrophysiologist every six months, before that was my cardiologist every six months. They both basically review my meds and check in on my symptoms. Good luck on getting a routine Nicole
momofsara
My daughter's PCP( internal med ) manages her treatment, hes actually been more understanding and helpful than the cardio, neuro, or gastro. Good luck with your treatment and finding a good doc, it means all the difference when you have a doc who actually cares about your condition and not just another "paying customer". ljoeb
I see my EP doc as my main one.. about one every 6 weeks now. As soon as I level out on meds, he said I will be seeing him once every quarter and then half year. I'm looking forward to that as he is 60 miles away! Megan
I'm working on finding a new PCP who doesn't think I'm a complete nutter; hopefully she'll be able to do regular check-ups, since I can only get in to see my cardiologist about once a year. The plan is to make sure the new pcp understands everything and talks to my specialist regularly, and I keep her updated, etc. Hopefully it works out...Meg
summer
I guess this is a stupid question, but what is a PCP? I'm in Canada and it's an abreviation I have not heard. I was assumming it was "primary care physician" (like "general practitioner" or "family doctor") but now I"m thinking maybe not. Could someone clarify this for me? Thanks. Rachel
Sorry for the confusion. Yes, a pcp is a primary care physician. My pcp is a general practitioner. I used to have an internal med doctor as a pcp. Rachel

hsinthecountry
My PCP is an internal medicine dr. He manages my care and is a fabulous doc. (doesn't think or imply that i'm a nut case!)
