sandymbme
I have a new dx that I am wondering if anyone else has experienced and if it may be related to any of my pots issues. My dentist tells me that I have the worst case of TMJ he has ever seen. I had a sudden onset of intense symptoms a few weeks ago after years of it being merely a minor irritation. I am not sure if this is related to my laundry list of problems. I do know that the appliance the uber expensive specialist designed for my mouth triggered some horrific migraines that I have yet to entirely shake. I go to see a new specialist on Thursday and was just wondering if this was an experience anyone else could shed some light on?
mrsdavidson8605
Hi,Yes I have TMJ but i'm not sure if or how it relates to POTS. Sorry. My husband tells me all the time that I grind my teeth in my sleep... anyway hope you're feeling ok.
dsdmom
I've got TMJ - have had extremely intense and awful headaches starting in December. I'm finally doing better, but it's taken time and a LOT of adjustments to my mouth pieces. If the mouthpiece is causing you pain you need to have it adjusted...it can take several adjustments to get it right...good luck!
dezyrae2
I also have TMJ. Dont use a guard though. it gags me. I clench my teeth alot. I think it is alot of stress though. Maybe could be a pots thing though. Who knows. We get so many crazy things.
Maxine
I have TMJ, but it doesn't really bother me.I had one of those mouth guards, and felt that it caused further dental problems for me, so I tossed it.It cost me over $400.00 bucks. That's when I was working, and my dental insurance was really good. I also had medical insurance in addition to my husband's medical. We hardly paid anything out of pocket, so the cost of the mouth guard was next to nothing. Now our dental is horrible, and almost everything is out of pocket. Medical insurance is good though---thankfully.I have EDS, and the TMJ is probably a result of that. I'm also a teeth grinder......... mkoven
I have jaw problems because the joint is hypermobile-- from eds. For me, that would be the connection to pots/ncs. I can fit my fist in my mouth and can dislocate when I yawn. I have to be careful with chewy and crunchy foods.
lmbutare
I have it too. I spent thousands at this quack dentist in DC and he ended up jacking up my mouth so that my pain was the worst it had ever been. I stopped using all the mouthpieces and it was better without them. I'm a teeth clencher, but I'm scared to get another mouthpiece after my last experience! I hope it goes a lot better for you. whatever you do though, don't get surgery (most don't even mention that anymore) b/c it can destroy your jaw. Good Luck!lauren
sarct
I have it too. I am a teeth clencher. My dentist tells me I have over exercised muscles in my jaw, and wants me to wear a mouth guard. If I chew gum for a while, or munch crunchy things too much it starts hurting my jaw muscles.
jump
I do not usually have TMJ but a LOT of medications - especially SSRIs and SNRIs and anything else usually used for depression or mood disorders - give me SEVERE TMJ. I noticed in your signature that you take a few meds - did you notice if the TMJ got worse after starting any of them? My doctors have told me that it is a common enough side-effect for a lot of medications but one that it not widely advertised. sorry you're in pain!! hope you find something that helps.jump
sandymbme
I have had the TMJ for years, it just got signifigantly worse lately. Unfortunately it does not seem related to any of my meds, but I will ask the specialist when I see him tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the kind thoughts! Troy
Its somewhat comforting to see im not the only one. My TMJ for unknown reasons gets aggrivated by my POTS symptoms, I wake up in the middle of the night to find my jaw all tensed up and instinctively feel the need to release the tension by cracking it and once i do i can go back to sleep again but it keeps re-occuring many time through out the night. Also happens during the day when my symptoms flare up the jaw muscles feel frozen and make a real sharp loud cracking sound when I open my mouth. I laso get really bad neck pains that run from the back of my neck to my jaw and radiate through my whole head with severe headaches . Megan
I, too, have TMJ. I figure part of it is the hypermobility syndrome. The jaw is a joint, so it must just be like the way my elbows go backwards. I grind my teeth and have to crack my jaw to release tension. I can relate to the neck pain and headaches, too.Meg
SunsetParadise49
If you have EDS, TMJ is usually a follower.
