Argh My Legs!

Hello,

For those that don't know me I live in Melbourne, Australia. Just this last week we have had a real freezing cold change in weather ( I don't know if that has anything to do with it but mentioning it. ) Anyway after about 4pm my legs start to give me **** and last night even after taking a sleeping tablet I still couldn't sleep as I was in too much pain. It really feels like someone bruised my legs using a baseball bat. I had a really hot bath about 7pm last night (under supervision from my DH) and it gave me relief for awhile but by 10pm I was in agony again.

I am on florinef and midodrine and admitedly about a month ago I started taking a midodrine before bed and it would stop the aching enough to sleep. Is it possible that my body has got used to the midodrine do I have to up the dosage? I'm on 5mg doses. That or any other ideas or things you know that I could try please feel free I am desperate but my specialist is a 2 hr drive each way and I don't have enough time off for at least 2 weeks to even think about making that trip.

Many thanks.

Julia

Hi,

Is it a muscle pain/ache? Or is like when you don't get enough blood flow pain, like if your leg falls really "asleep"? With that type of pain I have had it if I sit too long on the floor and get up etc. and because of reduced blood flow and it causes a lot of pain and discomfort. Also, due to if it is only at night and I am not sure if you have small fiber neuropathy, but it could be restless leg syndrome/neuropathic pain. As far as the Midodrine, sorry I don't really have any insight. If a hot bath helps it, does a hot pack help?

Hope you can find some relief!

Hi, I have a condition with my veins - Livedo Reticularis - that acts up in the cold. Basically, the veins are constricting and sometimes they do get pretty achey. Just wanted to mention it because symptoms do improve with heat. When it is acting up I can see a spider-web like pattern on my legs.

Hope it gets better for you.

No no veins. I thought potsy people would be beyond looking for things like that. Its more likely poor circulation from the blood pooling in my legs. I have a little foot heater that I can burn my legs on and not feel pain. Looks like i'd best be booking in to see the specialist. Thanks anyways.

Hi Mattsmum,

Potspeople are subjet to the same disorders as the normal population. For example, my brother has severe POTS and NCS. When he was 20 years old he had to have both saphene veins removed because of severe varicose veins. In September he had a double pulmonary embolism and had 1% chance of survival. He is very young for those disorders but in my family we have rare disorders and we also have common disorders at a young age.

In conclusion, you don't always have to look for the odd diagnosis when you have a rare diagnosis. You may also have a common problem.

Hi,

if you can burn your legs without pain it may suggest a nerve problem. Neuropathies can cause numbness / lack of temperature sensation / loss of fine touch sensation but they can also cause nerve pain. If it is nerve pain then the treatments are often different to muscular or circulatory pain - it is worth seeing a specialist to get a diagnosis of the type of pain so that you can try the right sort of treatments.

I hope the pains ease soon,

Flop
