Dysautonomia News - Fall 2004

Nina Wilde is organizing and directing DINET's
first fundraiser!

Here is a note from Nina:

Several months ago one of our members, Stacey Yount, suggested a bracelet fundraiser for DINET. The purpose of this project is not just to raise money for the continuing efforts of DINET but also to provide accurate information and support to patients and friends. The bracelet will also educate others about dysautonomia and will be a very visible reminder that you are a part of a large community of friends.

Forum members voted on the material from which the bracelet should be made, including the colors, as well as the motivational phrase printed on the bracelet. The results were overwhelmingly in favor of a metal bracelet that can be adjusted for size. It will be a silver color with two rows of dark blue print. DINET's logo and web address will be across the top row and the bottom row will have the winning phrase:

I get up. I walk. I fall down. Meanwhile, I keep dancing. -Hillel

In addition to bracelets, we are printing information cards that wearers can give to those who are interested in learning more about dysautonomia. One side will read: "Dysautonomia Information Network dinet.org.”

Dysautonomia can affect all automatic (autonomic) functions in the body, including the vascular, respiratory and digestive systems. Each day may bring health challenges for those with this syndrome including abnormal fluctuations in heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. The simplest activity, such as standing up, may be a challenge!"

The other side will say: "I wear this bracelet as a reminder that I am a supporter in the fight against the silent disorder known as Dysautonomia. Wear this bracelet for yourself or someone you care about as a symbol of support and as a way to educate others about Dysautonomia.

For information on Dysautonomia, to make a donation or to purchase a
bracelet, we welcome your visit to our website at www.dinet.org. At the time of this writing, the bracelets have been ordered and we expect the bracelets and cards to be available in time for delivery during the 2004 Holiday season. Check the DINET website for updates!

Many thanks to each person that has contributed their time, money and effort toward making the bracelet project a reality.

Fundraisers

We are starting a fundraising committee! We need members and friends who have experience in fundraising and/or grant writing to share ideas, come up with fundraising plans and execute them. Can you help raise funds to ultimately make the world a better place for dysautonomia patients? If so, please contact us.

Does your place of business or family give to charity? If so, please let them know about the Dysautonomia Information Network, www.dinet.org. Thank you!
